That's sad. What's even worse is that those kind of things happen all the time, and there's not a darn thing anyone can do about it.

Hmmmmm............

I understand the sentiment, but in reality anyone that watches this (I didn't, gave it about 25 seconds) probably already realises that kids observe and imitate their parents, and therefore moderate their behaviour accordingly.

Anyone that needs this spelt out to them in a video would not watch it, and would not even consider that it applied to them anyway.

The audience for this video already believe and follow the message it contains. As a result it serves no purpose other than to give people a reason to pat themselves on the back.

I think what Brando meant was that assuming this friend was not the one who was drinking, he did not have much control over the situation.

No matter how skilled or careful a driver you are, an intoxicated driver can kill you. It's scary out there on the road sometimes: not only drunkenness, but machismo, inattention, fatigue, and plain old stupidity.

Fortunately for others on the road my buddy kissed a tree all by himself. I am most sad for his kids. I am however, still angry with his stupidity.

Edit: Sorry for the morose replies. Its that the video reminded me of his kids. So no more sass outa me on this. Thanks for all your kind replies.

To clarify, I was specifically referring to the comment about there not being a thing that could be done about it. Clearly something could be done about it, and all of us know, myself included, that when we drive after having taken any alcohol, that we take our lives and those of other road users in our hands.

As to Wombat's friend, it is indeed a tragedy, a tragic consequence of a moment's poor judgement. I'm sure that he did not intend to leave his children in a position where they were without a father. It's a salutary lesson for us all, and one which we should not denigrate by saying that 'nothing could have been done'

Life is too precious (especially when one has kids) to be toying around out on the road like that. I remember when I first got my car I was so excited and that led me to race a lot. I started dating my girlfriend and she made me realize how stupid it is to risk your own life like that.

My parents always remind me to watch out for bad drivers on the weekends, and I see this is why
