Do you know what...

I have only ever been in a Volkswagen Beetle once in my life, as a passenger from Hereford to London, a journey of some 130 Miles.

During the whole of that journey it was impossible to carry out a normal conversation due to the noise from that Flat-4, fan-cooled, engine in the back!

Imagine flying in a Cessna 152 without a communication, noise-cancelling headset, and that will give you some idea of the incessant clatter of riding in a Beetle....
...a form of long distance Water Torture... :o....!

Never again!... ;)...!

...mmmm..must totally agree about the Beetle, but I have had more than one holiday in one of these which looks to me like a VW Caravette......brings back great memories of the open road and farmyard campsites........ ::)

...Ah!, the glorious smells of rural England...wonderful.

They're still everywhere out here, flower power season or not, a lot of San Franciscans are still trying to keep the hippy days alive...

Our fam. had a '79 VW bus that we bought new, and I'll tell ya what, it was the MOST reliable vehicle we had ever owned, before or since! When we sold it in '91, it had 200,000+ miles on it, and it still ran like a champ. (was a little rusty though) I'd give my left "marble" to have it back.
