later on we took a U.S. Citizenship test (as would be given to an immigrant) and one question was "Who did the United States Declare Independence from?"

the girl answered "Mexico"  >:(

MEXICO????

MEXICO????

I Felt really horrible for not only this person, but especially the professor of the class.

I didnt know what to say but i was astonished, i was dumbfounded. if i could go back to that moment i would not be surprised if my jaw was literally gaping open.

The sad part is this person GRADUATED from high school!!!!!  :o ::)

Around me some people are not aware of the fact South Carolina isn't a country, and their idea of a third world country is Europe...sad isn't it?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Well, to be really technical, it was one of the thirteen original self-proclaimed countries -- that is, states -- to ratify the union of those states (similarly, the Soviet Union has now predominately dissolved into un-unified countries [states]). That has bearing on why there has been threats of secession -- or the cumulative secession commonly known as our Civil War.

Do you have what it takes to become a citizen?
[url]

"When immigrants want to become Americans, they must take a civics test as part of their naturalization interview before a Citizenship and Immigration Services (INS) officer. The questions are usually selected from a list of 100 sample questions that prospective citizens can look at ahead of the interview (though the examiner is not limited to those questions). Some are easy, some are not. We have picked some of the more difficult ones.
NOTES: The INS plans to revise its list of questions in 2008 (a pilot program is using these new questions at selected INS sites). Also, the questions in the test below are as asked on the official United States Immigration and Naturalization Services Web site. Candidates are not given multiple choices in the naturalization interview, which is conducted orally."

About 50% +/- of American citizens fail this test, especially teenagers...... ::)

I did extremely well, I won't say how well, because you wouldn't believe me anyway.

You answered 100% of questions correctly

85-100%: Welcome to the United States! (And, truth be told, you know more about this great land than most Americans.)

My kids took the test and if INS knew the score....lmao.....they'd probably be deported and they were born here.

Yep, the ex-wife did a fine job raising them.... ::)

Once when visiting family in North Carolina, at a park we got into conversation with some "locals" (to put it politely :-?), some of the questions that they ask, I wondered how these people managed to dress themselves in the morning. For example, could you buy Coke Cola in Europe, are the trains still running on steam?????????. They are just a  couple that come to mind, but the best one was, what do we use for toilet paper in Europe, now that one really floored me....I was so tempted to say we cut up yesterday news paper and have to squeeze on national holiday when they are not printed ;D

Matt

My friend who moved hear them England was visiting some family in the N.C. mountains and they took him to the store, and told him they had something to show him. him thought they were talking about some weird food or something, but went they got there they said, "Look at all the inbred people." ;D

Dumb People? don't get me started on dumb people. I'm a 7up vendor (for the next 10 months) and even though I only work 3 days a week because I'm a full-time student, I've seen enough idiots to last me a lifetime. At work I have to fill the shelves of 3 wal-mart stores a day, and let me tell you, wal-mart seems to attract people of the lowest intelligence. The best example was when a woman tried to argue with me about whether or not I worked for Coca-Cola. "It's the same God D**m thing!" she insisted after I told her that I couldn't help her because I work for 7up and not Coca-cola, so she said a bunch of nasty words that began with the letter 'F' and went to harass the Pepsi vendor for a while. He stood and argued with her for about 5 minutes before he just had to walk away. ::)

This is for everyone who wonders why intelligent life from other planets will not stop by Earth and say Hi!
They are looking for intelligent life ;)
