I couldn't say about all the military branches, but I know the Air Force has C130's.

Flying on C130's were by far the worst flights of my life..... ;D

Actually, I believe the Air Force Academy recently made it easier to get in.
I was in the USAF, but I worked for living. ;) One of my brothers was in the Navy and he was stationed at both AF and Navy bases throughout his career. According to him the AF eats better. ;D

;D
So good food at Air Force and I knew Air Force had C-130's but I love the Coast Guard textures  ;D
I wanna fly in one so badly but first I dont know how I will inless I join the armed forces and now im not so sure I do it might freak me out so much I wouldent wanna become a pilot  :o

That shouldent happen  ;)

Ive sent both schools a pre-registration thing were they both sent me letters telling me what I need to do to join the academy. It still seems AFA is harder than Navy? Is it or no...

Mmm, one thing I can say about USAF food from my own experience was quantity wasn't an issue, but salt was a key ingredient. In fact, we rebranded the curry "a salty", which had a bit too little curry powder to season it! Then again, I've never catered for 11000 people!

As for the Navy, a colleague who once nearly transferred to the Navy, was given a good point to consider beforehand - do you really want to live on a boat for months on end? :)

Air Force, less chance of drowning.   ;D

I was in the application process for the Air Force Academy many years ago and visited the Academy a few times.  I decided late into my senior year that it just wasn't what I wanted to do and went to regular college.

I couldn't say how long the Navy deployments are, but i've been told the Air Force deployments are only 4 or so months long.

Also, in the Air Force, I believe they pay airmen an extra living allowance for living in sub-standard living conditions....! :o

And if you're in the Air Force and deployed to Iraq, you're more than likely going to be on a base such as Al Asad, TQ, LSA Anaconda, or Camp Victory. These bases are much more secure; they have multiple chow halls, which are very nice, have good food, and even have REAL plates, silverware, ect...! :o 8-); They also have nice MWR's, movie theaters, nice PX/BXs, paved roads, coffee shops, and fast food such as Burger King, Pizza hut, Mcdonalds, and Taco Bell. On some of those bases, if it weren't for everyone walking around with weapons, you would forget you were in a combat zone.... ::)

Or be able to pop into Al Udeid holiday camp (now complete with Starbucks, along with Pizza Hut and BK) for a day or two. :)

To be fair, in that case, maybe a military career isn't really for you, as you get very little choice in where you are sent.

Air Force!  But I may be a bit biased. ;)

As far as the vision goes, if you do well on entrance exams and scores, there are things that can be done about the vision.  Don't just assume that you can't have a flying job because you vision is below the minimums, there's usually waivers and alternatives.

Also, the deployments are 4 months long, then after that, you can't be deployed for another two years after that, so it's pretty much 4 months every two years.  Although, the navigator commitment is 6 years and the pilot commitment is 10 years, so be ready for a long haul, but you do get full retirement after 20 years, so you could retire by the time you are 42 years old. ;)

As far as where you are deployed, like Charlie said, you don't get much choice, but then again, you are in the military to do the job you are hired for, and there is no mystery as to what that is.
