How simviation got you so into it?

Postby tcco94 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 2:34 am

I always wondered how, when, and why you joined simviation forums. I mean most of the people around here know eachother and im starting to learn some of the bigger peoples names that helped me out and I mostly know that there big around here by there posts.

Also how did you first start your fs experience?

Ill start out by saying I first flew on FS2002 with my keyboard..We all know how that works out [smiley=evil.gif]. So then I used my xbox 360 Ace Combat flight stick and started getting more into the game. I dint play as much as I did maybe once once or twice a month. Then when my birthday came around I kept and kept on watching FSX videos and got FSX and Saitek X52. Then I searched up how to add aircraft and simviation was the biggest and best and I started out by using this forum for FSX questions but I fly about 3 to 4 times a week (counting it days not flights) but lets see how high school and FS works out.. [smiley=bed.gif]
Now im making youtube videos and am 15 posts away from 500 in only about like 100 days since joining!  :D
This is what I do when the sunlight falls down sit here on simviation and fsx till 1AM..  :D

Bro would download mods for fs 95 / 98 from here...many, many, many years ago.  ;) Mind you, I was most likely 6 at the time, but as I got older I eventually visited the forum and eventually joined. :)

Always been interesting in aviation though...

I saw it at a friends house, and we were both trying to figure out how to get the Cessna airborne at the default meigs, eventually we found out that it was F4, so off we went! This was somewhere around FS 5.1 or so i believe. I was 7 or maybe 8 back then.

Later on i got FS2000 and learned myself to fly, mostly getting a plane up and down, i didnt know a lot about procedures or anything else, also because we only had dial-up internet in our house. So the only time i went online was on a saturday or sunday as early as possible, and most of the things i did back then was downloading planes. Thankfully i learned how to install scenery because of this(you cant just hop online and ask, you have to figure it out yourself). then in early 04 i got FS 2004. And at this time we had a broadband DSL connection, so i could do a lot more, and eventually got the hang of most of the stuff that concerns FS.

Many moons ago I remember playing on FS98 as a 6 year old lad, knowing nothing about how to fly and what I was flying, and that was my first taste of FS.

A friend first introduced me to FS2004 way back in late 2004, which really was the real start of my aviation obsession hobby ;D

From there I bought FS2004 and within about two weeks was hunting for downloads (I remember it being an A380 I was after, which I downloaded from this very site), but I had no idea how to install it. Eventually I found out (read a post on the forums), and from there I just began reading SimV posts and looking at screenshots, and thinking "this looks fun"! So I tried to join the SimV forums but thought you had to pay to be a member, and by mid 2005 I realised we can join for free, and so I did, and here we  are now :D

(Sorry for the life story there! ;D)

Been using computers for Flight Simming (and everything else) since the late 8-Bit 1970's.... :)...!

My first , (and best) Flight Simulators for the PC in 1995 were "FLY!", "Pro Pilot" and "Pro Pilot 2", and the best of all..."Flight Unlimited II" by Looking Glass Studios... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

Shortly after the release of those Sims, Simviation started, and wishing to explore more about the "Game", I finally joined Simviation, after browsing it for a short time, and purchased FS '98, followed by FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, (and FSX).

Since then, like many of my Chums at the time, I have Browsed the Forums daily, without fail...
...and enjoyed using the Simulator for daily Exploring the World in my General Aviation fleet of Aircraft!....

When computers first started to become available for home us, I could see the potential for flight sims and could not wait until it happened. I first started of with a Sinclair Spectrum and almost wet myself when the first flight sim came out for that. I bought just about every flight sim that came out for that computer. Then went to an Amiga and started again. Can't remember what the name was, but it involved flying an F18 on missions in and around San Fransisco Bay Area. Then I tried FS3 and was really hooked more than before. This was 1987/8. I spent the the next years saving for a PC. I finally had enough money (I was also paying for my first car at the time) in 1993 to buy a PC. It was if memory serves, a 486DX 66, 4MB, 256MB hard drive and a single speed CD Rom and a 14 inch monitor. I was cruising with this baby. I them bought an extra 4MB card and was then really flying (it cost me

Long story short, played FS95 or 98 (cant remember which one) when i was really young, and then years later when I was stationed in San Diego I saw FS9 at the exchange and my eyes popped out of my head, bought it, been playing it non-stop ever since.  Moved to Hawaii, and started getting bored with the default aircraft and did a search to see if there were add ons, and up came SimV!!  Again my eyes popped out of my head when I saw all these free aircraft from the wonderful designers who take the time to hook us up!!

Once I learned how to install the planes and scenery I was hooked, used SimV for 2 years before I realized I should support the community and become a member, so I got my subscription and started reading the forums, and realized how big of a resource I had been missing out on for all these years.  And now here I am  8-)

Until I could afford and find a CFS1 disk, my main flight experiences were with Star Trek Academy; CFS2 was already out but it was quite some time before I got the disks for it. Somewhere along the line I procured FS95 and FS98. Quite some time after finding SimV I also got FS2k2 at a computer fair and more recently purchased FS2k4 for $17 (the most I've ever paid for any gaming software -- yet, it's too large a program for me so I've never installed it).
I actually came across SimV about 2001 A.D. (millenia after Foz's simulated pterodactyl ;) -- wasn't Sinclair associated with the Flintstones?) while I was searching for a cheap flight animator (such as an unwanted AF99... cheap.. yeah, sure...). I only perused the forums during the beginning of the century, however, not signing in until around 2003 or 2004, then lost my isp and forgot my password. I signed in again in late 2004 or early 2005 but changed my isp again and, again, my password evidently wasn't what I thought it was; I've been around here with the same login since May of 2005.
There you have it, guys (hi, Foz), the very short story...

I lived a very meaningful, useful and productive life until I found this site a few years ago. Now it's all about roaming this forum, downloading planes and sceneries, flying online tours and stuff. I neglect my family and friends, my work is suffering from it and all I can think is that I am a pathetic piece of cake. My name is Sir Crashalot and I'm an addict........

From a very early age, I was playing games such as Chuck Yeager's Flight Sim, Mig-29 Fulcrum, ect for our old 8080PC.

In 1995, a friend showed me FS5, and when our family bought a new Pentium that same year, I got FS5.1. I got FS98 in 1998, and when we finally got internet access in 99-2000, I found SimV listed on the MSFS website. I've been a forum member ever since ;D

I've also had every version of MSFS since than... ;)

Well I popped in to the forums to look for a few days then decided to join. I had only known how to download and install aircraft a few days before joining so I guess the community would help me.

I have been here over a year and I have learned many things that I would never have if i didn't join. I would not know anything about software, hardware, aviation, and humor. ;D

This is one helpful community.  8-)

I started flight simming in about 1998.

It was the end of school and as a treat my parents always bought me a new game for the Windows 95 box. That brilliant year I opted for Flight Simulator 98. It came with a box containing the CD and a nice little booklet on controls and general aerospace topics. I would have only been 5 or 6 at the time so it made little sense. I also had a Saitek Megagrip VIII joystick (which I still own) which was also my first of the only two joysticks I have ever owned... I have the Saitek Cyborg Evo now, 8 or 9 years on.

So I started my flying career... flying around Meigs for hours on end. I remember spending days trying to switch on the engine of the glider as well as a few hours trying to find the 'period' key so that I could turn off the brakes and go somewhere. Silly American terms... it was obviously the 'Full stop' button! Gradually I went in larger things and started doing circuits in a 747, though my favorite was the Learjet 45. It wasn't easy flying with just F1 and F4 for power so I am thankful for my throttle on the cyborg... but I built up my skills.

I managed to find myself on this little island of the web by chance. I was looking for FS2004 (maybe even FS98 as FS2004 is still quite new to me) addons and then suddenly Simviation showed up on Google and I stuck with it.

Roughly 10 years on, I have probably got a few hundred to low thousand hours over dozens of aircraft ranging through 3 computers and 2 joysticks  ;D   It is just great  ;)

I started with keyboard flying in FS98 when I must have been about 6.  I could pretty much just fly a straight ____________________ doing that. Got a joysyick. No idea which one. Could do landings and taxiing and stuff, but I never really got into it. Got FS 2004 for what must have been my 10th birthday. That was shortly followed by an X52 because I could only do ___________ flying with the keyboard. Again, I never really got into it to much, but I did more than 98. Got FSX the Christmas it came out I think. Got distracted from that by Orbiter Spaceflight Sim for about a year. But once soome addon to that screwed the whole Orbiter Sim up, I went back to FSX. Started searching for addons. That led me to SimV. Signed up with one original question and 860 posts later here we are. Added to my simming with a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System, which I recieved for my birthday only on the 6th of this month. And here we are today. Whew that was a lot of typing...

I started with FS2004 a few days after it was released because we had just got a computer. For a few years I fly with the keyboard not knowing that there were addon aircraft or anything be we didn't have internet. I got a joystick from Wal-mart and its the one I still have to this day, with the joystick really became interested and learned how to taxi, turn, land on the runway, use the radios and such. And for a few years my friend let my use his wifi connection for internet and I found SimV and I started using addons. But it wasn't until I moved and got internet where I am now that I joined the forums. 2 years later here I am, and because of the no-return policy, your stuck with me. :P ;D
