Gas Thieves Are at it Again

And they are relentless.

If there is any other reason why we as human beings should rethink our dependence on oil, this is it.

;D

What are the diesel thieves gonna do? Drive to their local Sheriff's office and explain that while tresspassing on private property and stealing diesel, the farmers started shooting at them?

But in this day of age, they would probably sucessfully win a lawsuit against them... ::)

Think we had that back in '73 with siphoning gas thieves after regular gas.  Doesn't take much, all they need is a hose.

I had a locking gas cap back then, so here we go again with the security precautions.  Thanks for the tip, let's see if there are any locking gas caps around.  I got wheel locks, a club, and two neurotic chains from my steering wheel to my shifter (Yeah, my friends laugh, but hey, my car's always where I park it), now I gotta get another thing to keep the thieves at bay.

Its a problem here too, not as bad, but still enough to annoy us and loose many hundreds of dollars in fuel.  At the farm someone siphoned one of the tractors last week...since the property is rarely occupied at night its an easy target for any equipment left out of the barn.  Whoever did it made off with over $200 of diesel >:(  And thats not the first time its happened in recent months...just since January 1st we have figured a loss of over $2500 in fuel to thieves...even when equipment is in the barn they still find a way in >:(

Gas thieves are starting to crawl out of the wood work now, theres been several reports of siphoned tanks in my area.  I invested in a locking gas cap after the first time mine was stolen late at night...and I park right on the street under a light >:(  Not that its a busy street at any time...but still.

What scares me even more...some of these idiots went from siphoning to drilling :o  They take the chance of becoming a crispy critter...but one spark and not only is the thief getting crisped so is your vehicle :(

All 5 gas stations in my town are now nothing but prepay thanks to drive offs >:(  Makes it a real pain when you give them $50, go out to pump, and only can fit in $30 of it...then you have to go back in a wait in line AGAIN just to get your refund...even worse if you used a check or the ultimate slap to the face is if you paid inside with a credit card >:(  Just a sign of the times...can't even fill up without paying first anywhere you go :(

This is where the old rule comes into play:

"If you have to use a weapon in self-defense; make sure there's only one side to the story"

Precisely :-X

Gas stations in your area are now just requiring you to pre-pay? It's been years since I've been in a gas station where you weren't required to pre-pay

Fortunately it hasn't come to that here - yet.

We're not as bad here yet. Bulk of the  servos here want us to pre pay between 1930 and 0630. Which isnt too bad, i guess. Fuel has hit A$1.57 here now, and they're predicting $2 a litre by christmas

It's a good thing my car has a very low ground clearance. Should make it difficult for the thieves to get to the tank. However, considering how resourceful those bastards are, I guess I should invest in some automated gun turrets just as a precaution. ;D ::)

Well, that would put an end to topping up one's tank before setting out on a long journey. I do this frequently. How could I possibly know how much that would cost in advance? No thanks. The system we use in this country has been in use for many years, presumably without too many problems.

Dare I suggest that drivers in this country are inherently more honest than their US counterparts. :o :P

I can visualize  a system where you get a ticket at the pay desk to open a barrier to let you  off the forecourt as you do to leave some carparks........many and varied are the ways to stop cars from driving away without paying........Pop up barriers operated from the paydesk seems like another workable idea....for those with the will, there is always a way, as the saying goes........... :P

Here's one in use in London right now........ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7418684.stm
Go on red and you lose your tyres! :o

We should have national competition on TV to find the best one ......free fuel for life for the winner.........commoner :P
