We must be so proud in the UK, a complete ban on the ownership of hand guns.................now lets go and read the papers and see how may people died this week from gunshot wounds and ask the police about the effect of said ban ::)

I for one am proud to live in a country where handgun ownership is illegal.

Thankfully still comparatively small in this country. I don't see how relaxing the ban would improve matters. The knife is the chosen weapon of young idiots in gangs. From what I read, you are more likely to be shot by armed police than criminals.

The point being, it is about illegally held weapons that do the damage and not those held by enthusiasts. Shame we don't take driving without insurance, no MOT, no license, or joy riding with such vigor. More death and heart ache from this than about any other crime in the UK right now.

Criminals will always be able to get hold of a gun if they really want one. I have no problem with enthusiasts shooting guns in a controlled environment. That is an entirely different matter. The point of the original topic is handgun ownership by the general public. The gun in question is advertised as "a nice little number to just slip into your pocket". Its only purpose is to threaten or kill.

When we get back to the main subject matter and the core sentance, yes you have a point.

This bugs me.

Believe it or not, a lot of us who who legally purchase a firearm are responsible, law abiding citizens who enjoy shooting as a hobby, and keep little extra protection around the house; NOT psychotic, homicidal, maniacs who only plan on commiting crimes with it.

You might as well label anyone who drinks alcohol a raging alcoholic who drives drunk all the time; or assume someone buying spray paint is going out to spray graffitti all over the place, and assume that someone buying a book of matches or some other fire/flammable device/substance is going to go commit arson, ect, ect, ect

People kill and injure people, and it's about holding people responsible for their own actions

Ok, now since that's off my chest, i'm gonna go ahead and slap myself, and let myself into the padded cell ;D

No I totally agree... I would own a gun just to have the pleasure of shooting rounds down range, but the problem is the minority that decide to do otherwise.

Its only purpose is to threaten or kill.

You left out, "defend and protect"..

Anti-gun people usually do that.

And words like.. "slip into your pocket", usually repalce, "concealable"

It's all about an emotional vs logical, examination and response.

Concealed carry is a very popular thing now, in the sates. More states allow it, than don't.

And in EVERY single state where it's been allowed... violent crime has gone markedly down. That's why all the anti-gun protesting has gotten so quiet.

It changes nothing. In order to do that you have to threaten or kill. That is the only purpose of this particular handgun. http://www.gunblast.com/KelTec_P3AT.htm

I have no right to comment on the use of firearms in the USA. It's your country & you must do as you see fit. I passionately hope that it doesn't come to this in my part of the world.

And I respect that.. and would not pose the debate sarcastically.

Guns are a part of our culture. This country has been a-wash in them, always. There's a legitimate debate about thier place in a society in decline. Thankfully, the right to self-protect was sacred enough to our founders, to list it second while drawing up our Bill of Rights. Else emotional, over-reaction might have dis-armed us.

The current evidence that guns themselves pose no threat, has a European-like gun law in Washington DC, up before the Supreme Court. Pre-evidence that guns aren't the problem.. political correctness would have not let the debate get that far.

Exactly ..  If you ever do have to take the horrid descision and use a weapon in self defense, it had better be as up to that task, as you are.

"Sorta" lethal force could end up getting YOU killed.

I am comfortable in my home knowing that I could defend myself against any intruders, and I want to be able to do just that at any time.  Also known as home invasion, it happens.  I keep my doors locked at all times, but it's still a matter of personal and psychological security.   For self defense, it's a matter of having a plan and not being afraid to implement that plan should it come to that.

I won't, however, carry a firearm in my car.  Too easy to make a mistake.  My nightstick will have to do.

Having said all that, I still am not in favor of combining car sales with gun give-aways.  Buying a firearm is a decision that should not be prompted by anything other than itself.
