Future of the Internet

What are your predictions?

This is for a school project in which I have to outline the history of the internet and how the internet affects the social world itself. I am not asking you to do the project for me but just give your opinions. And besides it's an interesting topic.

The current version of the internet will probably last for another decaded or 2 in the mainstream world, and the new version of the internet will quikly become the standard in the ICT/academy world. I dont know exactly when it will be introduced though, although im quite sure CERN must have a good portion of it ready.

If it wasn't for the bleedin' Internet....

...I would not be sat in this bleedin' chair seven days a bleedin' week, for the past 10+ bleedin' years of my bleedin' sad life, just surfin' around a load of crap stuff...

..instead...

I should have been dusting my furniture, hovering my carpets, making my beds, mowing my grass, digging my garden, planting vegetables, having a shower, going for long rides on my trusty Motor Bike, visiting my Family and friends, going for long walks in the Countryside, ...meeting other real people...etc, etc..

....you name it....I haven't done it for the past 10+ bleedin' years... ...!

That's what the bleedin' "Internet" does for you!...

In a few years time the internet will be closed for good and we all have a laugh about all the stupid things we did here. We'll finally get our lives back. It's just waiting for someone who will pull the plug out of the internet.....

Broadband 2.0 is sopposidly coming out soon...

Now two of the largest ISPs in the United States are hoping to kick off yet another broadband renaissance, this time with home connections that promise to reach 50-100 Mbps, enabling a slew of high-definition content, better-quality video-sharing sites and even 3-D video. Call it Broadband 2.0.

Apparently Comcast were charging $150 a month for this 50Mbps service.


Though, I think thats rubbish... I reckon people wont even get 10 of their 50 Mbps knowing ISPs as they are now.  ;)

I hope there comes a time that we can access the internet without ISP's. Talk about a bunch of thiefs. How come one ISP charges 19 Euro for a 20Mb connection while the next charges almost 50Euro for the same connection?

People are becoming more and more addicted, even dependant on Myspace, Facebook, and other "social networking" sites. I believe that next internet revolution will involve this in some way. Most likely noithing short of the complete disapearence on the English language in exchange for "text speak". This will also manifest itself in the form of people having office chairs surgically attached to their rear ends and their necks restrained so they cannot look away from the monitor even if they want to. Also their hands will be permenantly fixed in the typing position. Eventually people will be born with a highspeed wireless modems already in their brains to recieve a constant stream of gossip and pornography at wich time all spoken language will become extinct. This will of course lead to the total destruction of society...

...Oh, you just wanted the future of the internet. Probably more porn, that would be my guess. Just don't ask me about reality TV.

Social networking, that was going down the pub. Now it is sitting at home in front of a monitor making out that you are 6' 10", muscles like Arni, adventurer who takes his granny for a push in her wheel chair.......Reality, sat in his wifes undies, pink Talula  slippers, NHS glasses and drives a Robin Reliant.

And the next generation internet, same as today, but you will be able to  download your porn at a zillion MB per second.

I see nanotechnology, biotech, and superconducting tech exploding exponentially in the near future.. Everything will be different, in terms of how people manipulate their environment, how they interact with one another, and how they experience reality itself.
 I think the internet will be a whole different animal at that point, and the effect it's already having on human society will increase exponentially as well.

People will be able to "jack in" to a virtual world, wirelessly probably, and most of them will probably never come out. Interfaces like force-feedback sticks, Wii, and Track IR will be thought of the same way we now think of the telegraph: quaint, primitive stuff.

Somebody will have to mind the store, of course... that will be left to the lower tiers of society, or maybe robots. It'll be just like the Eloi and the Morlocks, and of course it will collapse eventually... although it could go on for millenia, especially if the machines are given enough autonomy to take over, a la the Matrix.

I just hope it all happens after I'm dead...
