Thats a bit odd

In the local news here in Colorado they had a report on some back up camera for a SUV that wirelessly pics up the the video from the tail unit and sends to the drivers display, well it turns out this thing is starting to pick up security camera video, baby monitor video, even some webcameras during broadcasts,

a bit odd to say the least

I never understood the use of cameras to back up. I drive a van without a rearwindow and I can back it up perfectly by using the wingmirrors only. Never hit anything while driving backwards. It's a matter of practise I suppose.

On the other hand, if it picks up webcams, it could show something interesting.....

Crash ;)

...it could pick up my Motor-bike parked behind you, in your "blind spot", before you reverse into it....knock it over...

...and drive off!.....Crash...;)...!

Had it happen, a couple of times!

Paul....Expensive repairs to fairings, etc, etc... :'(...!

...and little Johnny, playing behind you, in the Street...;)...!

Me and one of my bikes have actually been run over by a rapidly reversing Security Van with no rear, or side windows, on a main road!... >:(...!

Mid-size trucks often have (wired) cameras, luxury cars have sensors, and a toyota Prius can park itself.

It depends on the vehicle and the owner if there's a camera on the rear or not. Anything that is often used in confined spaces has a camera on the rear (DHL vans and so on)

I don't trust drivers of four or more, wheeled vehicles, so I never park directly behind them in the Street, (in their blind spot).

If there are parked vehicles in the Street, I always park my Motor Bike (temporally and safely) on the Pavement, or on a vacant spot, or somewhere else, whilst popping into a Shop, etc...

Motorists are notorious for not looking where they are going...
...especially when reversing, and it costs us loads of money when our Bikes are knocked over!... >:(...!

Good morning all... :)

A back up camera is a great piece of kit and something that should be standard equipment in ALL vehicles with blind spots.

Going back to the camera picking up wireless signals all I can add is when the electric garage door opener first came out there were problems then to.

I cannot for the life of me understand why they had to make that wireless- it's idiotic.

How 'bout taking seven seconds out of your busy day to make sure Junior isn't playing underneath your muffler?

"Wireless" is probably a selling point to some people these days, even if there's no technical advantage to it. There's only so many radio frequencies allocated for non-licensed transmissions like this so it's quite possible to pick up things that are unexpected, but I would think you would have to be very close because of the very low power of the transmitters.

I could see where it could pick up unencrypted signals from baby monitors, security cams, etc.

It's wireless so you can use bluetooth technology to watch the view from your expensive ameraphone.  ;D :D

I think I'd rather just have a camera instead :P  All I can think when it comes to cars parking themselves is...what if the computer has a bad day, or the sensors got dirty...that could be one very expensive glitch ;D  Especially if Micro$oft had anything to do with it [smiley=door.gif]

I reckon this is on the 2.4GHZ frequentie, if a channel gets flooded it could try jumping to other channels, that might already be in use and also pick up some data from that, altough im no techy in any way and im sure nickN or Alonso could explain this way better, if there is any explenation in the first place.

Oh nos! Its the battery industry!

The 2.4GHZ freq does get flooded from time to time, enough video's on youtube in wich you see the RC planes falling back to there failsafe whilst in a loop, one  thing you dont want!
