Photo dilema

Lets say, that you work in a large building and a well known car company comes to use it to take some nice pictures of several new models (face lifts I think) in private and lets say you are able to get a "few" sneaky pictures of said cars. Would you keep them to yourself, so maintaining the secrecy of the day and the trust that said car company has in the company's build that they are using, or would you go in the direction of a free years subscription to a certain car magazine if you can supply them with "scoop" pictures...................What would you do.

Depends on the circumstances & whether you work for the owner of said building. If your photos were published & you were traced you could possibly lose your job. Hardly worth it for a year's free subscription to a magazine.

Being basically honest (some would say too honest) I would probably respect the car company's wishes. I've had the opportunity of several photo scoops with both cars & aircraft (some fairly recently) but have always kept them to myself.

Why not? Unless you have a prior agreement that forbids you, go for it. If it would jeapodise your position, then obviously no.

I have to say I am leaning more in the direction of discretion. Not due to the job risk, but more from the trust side of things.

If your jobs safe you then have to think, would they ever use your building for future scoops. I'd keep it quiet to open up future chances of seeing new cars first.

I would ask for a hell of a lot more than a free subscription.  Do you know how many magazines they're going to sell from something like that?

As for the ethics of it, how many times has everyone here gotten excited at a sneak peek of something new?  Some new game, shots from a movie, glimpses of the new Shelby Mustang or Camaro?  Where do you think these come from?

It's a huge trust issue.  Imagine if you had the opportunity in the future to do something that required even the smallest amount of secrecy and this got out, there would be an icicle's chance in hell of you getting that type of opportunity again.  Not to mention, is it something you would regret after it happened?  Is it really worth it?

Everybody likes a sneak peek, especially of new cars, or just facelifted ones.

But I'd worry about possibly trading my job for a 12 month subscription to a magazine - looking back on it all in two months & wondering if it was all worth it.

Hang on to the pics, it's not worth it.

Keep the photographs too show too your grand children when your old and slow, and tell em you were one of the first few people too see them new cars .

I agree with the majority Matt, trust is one of the most important things in business.. keep the photos to yourself, or better still take NO photos.

In my line of work I deal with a lot of rich and famous peole/celebrities and discretion is the one thing I have to have or it's goodbye job.

Mind you I could tell you some stories... but then I'd have to kill you  ;D  ;D

I have decided to keep them to myself. The trust part of the equation is important to me. If I had taken them whist they where on test drive it would have been a different matter, but they where taken in the building that I work in because it is a private place and the pictures can be taken without the risk of someone doing just what I have done. Saying that, abot two years ago the company that is next to our hanger did quite a bit of work on the Bugatti Veron. In the carpark of said company was three Bug's in primer grey. I had to deal with an AOG at the time, so had no time for a picture. Now that would have been a catch. They where in the open and fair game.

PS The pictures are of the new Porsche Cayenne and three other new models/face lifts. I guess everyone will have to wait just like the rest of us. Dam that conscience

Small update. I was off at the weekend, but one of the guys on the overlapping shift informed me that another co-worker took pictures, with a flash from a balcony above the cars. About 20 seconds later he was "detained" by five of the Porsche crew. who "requested" the memory card from his camera which was returned some 20 minutes later. I think I made the correct decision
