Bravo to Mom for selling the car but...

Excessive public humiliation for what appears to be an isolated incident from a normally well behaved kid seems harsh, doesn't it?

She and her son appeared on ABC's Good Morning America show this morning. She said she didn't think it would make national and international news, and didn't mean to publicly humiliate him ;)

Public humiliation just what we need in the UK for every scumbag burgler and car thief, con artists that prey on the elderly and anyone whose excuse starts with, "well I had had a few beers"

No I do not think it's too harsh.  Half the problem with the world today is that parents do not instill any sense of discipline in their children.  I guarantee you, this kid will think twice about it before he does it again...

Let me put it to you this way:

When I was a kid, I stole a model airplane.  Nobody caught me, until my mom asked me where I got it from and she saw through my BS excuse.  She made me take the plane back to the store, explain the situation to the store manager, and apologize in front of about 10 'grown-ups.'  This was called a lesson, not humiliation.  I deserved it, and it taught me a thing or two...

From then on, every time I stole a model airplane, I thought up a decent excuse before I did it...  ;D

Yeah, well I don't think you're going to find a whole lot of people ready to hang her out to dry.  The kid has learned a lesson he will not soon forget, and if she was a little too enthusiastic, then I applaud her for not taking the other route and overlooking the incident.  In a world where 11year olds are given condoms and allowed by their parents to stay out until they feel like coming home, it's great to see someone willing to draw a line.

This is my last on this.  I am not going to change your mind and you are not going to change mine, so enjoy the story, have a good laugh, and move on....   ;)
