Had this trouble on Friday night, the wife wanted me to go and clear the steps and path in front of the flat during a blizzard. Captain Brainy here ran down to the corner shop and got a kilo of salt first. Then once I'd cleared a patch I put some salt down. Kept doing this, Saturday morning it was a piece of cake to clear the remainder and NO ice to contend with 8-)

Sounds good in theory, but with snow falling at the rate of an inch or more per hour, combined with 20-35 mph winds, ice isn't the problem, and salt won't help much.

Forget shoveling and snow blowing..  Try waking up with snow-drifts up to the roof  :P You have to tunnel your way to the garage..lol

I'm in Ohio... probably getting the same stuff as Groundbound1... But my "home" is Trout Lake, MI  (35 miles NE of   T H E    Bridge)(Groundbound1 would know " T H E "  Bridge). There's about 2 feet on the ground now..  we'll likely get several hundred inches by April  ::)

Yup, I know the "Big Mack" well. Infact, my Grandfather used to live in Newberry. We spent a Christmas or two up there when I was a pup, so I know ALL about the roof high snowdrifts! It's fun when you're a kid though.

I wish we had snow like that. Last time I saw some snow was Januari 2006. And that was gone in a week or so. Would be nice to have a white Christmas again. It's a long time ago that happened.

With all this global warming causing the Gulf Stream to shift in won't be too long before we start having winters on the same par as places like Canada and Norway.  :o

Question.....Would you shovel the snow four or five times (every three or four inches or so) or wait till it's done snowing, and break your back by shoveling it all at once?

I'd scoop one standard shovelful at a time; I think shoveling the entire walkway in one scoop would take one huge shovel and some mechanical assistance.

I try to avoid the wizz-cicles myself, but at least ya made home. (with all the appendages you left with, hopefully)

We didn't get hit as hard as they thought we would. I think the final tally in my driveway was about 10 inches or so. It could always be worse! Now they say it's gonna rain later this week.  Whaddaya-gonnado?
