I just had an odd thought. Is crooked teeth a strictly human problem? because I've never seen an animal that looked like it need braces. :-? :D

Every animal has unique teeth and the alignment of those teeth varies as much as human teeth. We can only see a fault with human teeth because we are familiar with what human teeth shoul look like; it is then easier to spot teeth that are mis-aligned.

We are not so familiar with dog's teeth, for example, we do not experience them 24/7 (thank god) so abnormalities are less noticeable. ;)

I've seen a few dogs with teeth that were obviously crooked... ;)

;D Nice. My parents paid $5000 dollars for my braces. They coulda just got me a computer. Braces hurt and suck. But, on the upside, I used to get headaches because of my extreme jaw placement without braces, and with my jaw pulled forward with the rubber bands, no more headaches! :D

That's one reason why orthodontic procedures are often a real good thing... it's not always just to have "perfect" teeth.

My problems were potentially very serious- had I been left alone, I would look and speak very differently (not in a good way, either), and maybe had to get more painful procedures later.

I had a narrow upper palate (shaped like a left palate, but with no gap),which was creating crowding among my upper teeth, a lower front tooth that had migrated about 1/4" behind the others so it was under my tongue, and a serious overbite.

My Daughter's teeth arn't really that bad to me but, She has spaces and She only smiles with her mouth closed.  My Wife asked her if she wanted braces and she said yes please.  Beside I want to see her big smile showing all her pearly whites!!  So what ever it cost it's worth it!!

I was wondering about that... you might want to get several opinions; sometimes "gappy" teeth move closer together as kids grow up.

try stretching your mouth, i found it hurt because the bands were tight and needed to loosen- though dont think that they will break, it took me several attempts to open my jaws without fear of getting a face full of brace

short of that, anbesol is a good thing to chuck on your lips and aching areas... i found it to be very good at getting rid of the pain from braces. though, dont be an idiot like me and swig the bottle of oral anaesthetic. i couldnt feel my tongue for about half an hour  ::)

edit: my second point of advice is to WEAR THAT RETAINER. i didnt wear mine because i got it like 4 days after brace was removed and it hurt too much to try and fit it on my teeth. my teeth have since returned about half way back to where we started (thats after a few months).... but atleast it was free dental health care

I just remembered a piece of advice. Try not to break the rubber bands! A friend of mine had braces in high school and he broke his rubber bands so many times that they installed metal springs instead. One time he managed to break a spring and it stuck out the side of his mouth. He looked like a fish being reeled in. ;D

Hello Mush... :)...!

I was really upset to know that you are really NOT a genuine Farmer of Mushrooms at all... :o...!

You previously invigorated my interest in Mushrooms to the extent that I frequently made up a tasty Mushroom Soup suitable for consumption through a straw..(teeth problems... :-[...lack-of..)... ;D...!

LOL! Yes, it happens... I used to have to carry around little bags with spares... if I remember right, they were different sizes and had to be installed in the right places. What a PITA... but worth it, in the long run. ;D
