I honestly don't know what to say...It's a marvelous idea, and people can actually see what it's like to be on an aircraft...We seem to forget when we live in the Western world that there are poorer nations out there that have populations that cannot afford a single flight as it would take more than a years worth of wages from them... :-/ :-/

Seeing as that I am from India and have actually expierenced the country, the chance to even sit on an airplane is something extraordinary for some of the people over there. There is extreme levels of poverty and as the article said 99% of the people there have never been on a plane. I can not personally imagine me never being on a plane. India is very diverse and the gap between the Ultra-rich and Super-poor is probably around 10 times that then what it is in the Western world. My great-grandmother who lived until she was 104, lived in a small agricultural village were most people didn't finish grade school. I had the chance to visit there several times and none of the people ever once complain about anything in there life, whether it be the lack of indoor plumbing or the oxen shortage (yes all real problems there, we had to use a well to get water and the farmers were suffering from a lack of oxen to pull plows cause they were dying from dieseases) When we explained we had came from America on a plane, they would go something like this

So morale of the story is this, count your blessings and understand that what is normal in some places, can be absoultely ab-normal in other.

THANK YOU for pointing this kind of thing out.  Too many people have never traveled much and assume that basic lifestyles are the same all over the world.  When you come from a rich country like America and see REAL poverty and suffering for the first time........ it really has an impact.

I think it should be a "requirement" that young people (20-ish) from the more affluent contries travel to places that will make them think twice about life.  Probably go a long way to improving the world.

Even here in America it's not too far from those days. My grandmother didn't have indoor plumbing until I was around 8 or so. Water came from a spring beside the house and we all used the old privy out back to do our business when we visited. She used to heat the house with a coal burning Franklin Stove. Actually the house I live in now wasn't modernized too long ago. We still have the concrete base for the privy out back and an old hand pump in the shed where the family used to get water. Under the kitchen there's still a root cellar and concrete tubs where they used to keep milk and other spoilables. Further my mother who is 84 still knows how to harness a horse and plow a field with it. Currently since we live so far out in the country we often loose power so I've installed a hand pump on our plumbing system just in case and we often use that when the power is out. Heat is a little more modern in power outages. I installed a modern wood burning insert into the fireplace since it's much more efficient.

Back on topic. I don't particularly like flying in airliners period. That's a little too boring for my tastes. I'd much rather ride in a small aircraft. And yes even six hours in a Cessna would be preferable to two in an Airbus. I like that feeling of flight you get in small aircraft.

Well... I really LOVE and enjoy it when I'm in an airliner. I just like the sensation of taking off... turning... descending... and harder the touchdown is.. better for me!

I think this is a nice idea for people who can't afford air travel.
