I had never heard of this women before till she was dead...but from what I heard...not many shall miss her.

She had been in trouble for not paying taxes...and was quoted saying "Only the little people pay taxes."

There are plenty of examples of spoiled little rich kids who have never done a day's work in their useless lives.

To many of them...I work for ones daddy not making crap doing all the work while sonny boy sits on his arse making more then I could imagine  Just remember...its not the kids that are rich...its the parents who are rich and can cut them off at any moment  And its time to sit back and enjoy the show when they do

Yeah, she was such a stereotype it was comical.  I think Cruela DeVille (from 101 Dalmations) was inspired by her.  She didn't do squat to get where she got, she inherited the entire thing.  A real "winner".  At least you can be sure she died surrounded by people who hate her.  Imagine going through life with everyone hating you.  I don't care how much money you've got, if you're a person like her you're doomed to live an unhappy life.

Selfish or not, it was her money. She had every right to do whatever she liked with it.

My two best friends the one that owns the Navajo in my avitar and five other planes and the other who inherited 1.5 mil from his uncle are are pretty well set for life and are depressed most of the time.

I'd do something similar to what a character in my favorite book did:  while I'm still alive I'd give them a somewhat sizeable sum of money, say $50k or $100k and tell them if they double it before I die they can have the entire fortune.  That way you know they'll do something useful with it.  Start a business, invest, etc and not just squander it.  I wouldn't have a problem leaving someone a large sum of money, I do have a problem with them using it to merely live a life of luxury and privilage.  Everyone should work for something and an expectation that they create more wealth than they consume.

I've heard people say that Paris Hilton makes $5M a year, but that's no big deal since she probably spends twice that on champaign alone, and that's a real poor rate of return on her daddy's enormous investment.  If any of us were given that kind of money we'd all turn $5M a year without breaking a sweat.  All you'd have to do is hand it over to some stock broker.  If Paris were actually using that money to generate wealth, run a business, invest smartly, then I'd actually have some respect for her.

All Helmsley ever did was merely sustain what others before her set up.  She managed properties which were hers by inheretance.  She didn't expand the Helmsley fortune.  If I were gifted with such an inheretance I'd be sorely disappointed in myself if I couldn't grow it by 50% before my death, which I think is an easy goal.  I think people who are "set for life" can be happy, but they'll never be happy merely spending the money.  Spending money doesn't make you happy, spending money that you've worked hard to earn makes you happy.

I actually had an old Army buddy say something similar. A male dog came trotting by and stopped to lick his...ah...well, you get the picture. My buddy looked over and said, "Man, I love to be able to do that when I'm frisky!"

I looked at him serious as a heart attack and replied, "Well, if you pet him real nice, you might just get lucky and he might let you."

About four people nearby plus my buddy all about fell down laughing. He looked at me and just said, "Daammnn, That was a good one!"

We use to cut each other down constantly. He never got over me out ranking him by several stripes...lol.

My other good one on him was when I told him, "If they stuck your brain up a gnats ass, it would look like a BB in a boxcar." That one left him speechless and he never did come up with a good response...lmao.
