I think we need a Kudos system (also known as karma system, respect system, etc). Each user can only give one "kudos" an hour. So if you post a kickbutt screenshot or something, or are generally just being a good dude on the forums, people give you kudos. It means a lot more than the postcount; its showing what people think of you, not how many times people see your name.

As far as I know such a mod exists for YaBB, I'll go hunt it out if anybody's interested.

On another forum i go on there is a 'thanks' system whereby if someone makes a post there is a 'thanks' button. If someone makes a useful post people who are reading it have the opportunity to say thank you. People have a 'thanks' count of the number of times they have said thanks and the amount of times you have been thanked. Its pretty much the same as the system you suggested. :)

The obsession with post counts is hilarious ..... the obsession with what other people post is even more hilarious.

Unless something in someone else's post offends or disgusts you then there is no need to comment on it.

If you feel indifferent about it post the positive or constructive comments, rather than the indifferent and negative.

If you enjoy it ... by all means enthuse about it.

Those that think it is their mission to comment on everything and everyone else's posts and those that feel it is their right to express their opinions on the content of other peoples posts note the following.

"It is better to stay silent and be considered a fool, rather than to open one's mouth and confirm it."

Post counts are easily zeroed ...... and posting in any forum adding to post counts equally easy to disable.

If you think anybody's posts are spam, then simply don't read them, nobody's forcing you to click on them. If they're in a thread your reading, just scroll through them.

This doesn't really hold water in a forum. Surely we could just turn around and say 'just scroll past the porn spammers, no-one is forcing you to read them'
