How about this....

Postby Fly2e » Fri Jun 01, 2007 9:01 am

For my 40th Birthday present!  8-)

They will be in my area at Brookhaven Airport in May of 2008 and considering I will be 40 in March of 2008, I think I am doing this.
My wife knows how much I want to fly a real plane and has been promising me for years that for my 40th birhday she will set up a flight for me.

They fly the SIAI Marchetti SF260 and considering I have allot of stick time on the Real air 260, this will be fun!
The cost is $1,000 for 4 hours. Basically 1 hour pre-flight then up we go.

Has anybody heard about this before?

We will see.
It is a bit far off (1 year) and my wife (and I) are not going to pay the full $1,000.
I am hoping my brother, sister, in-laws and parents will all want to chip in for this.
Then that would be more realistic for all!

Oh No...you may not want to read this Dave  ;D LOL

I have given this a little more thought now, yes the old grey matter got jump started.

No aerobatic military or civilian team flies four (4) hours of continuous aerobatics, it is just too demanding.
So, without seeing the flying routine I think you might get ten (10) minutes of aerobatics out of sixty (60) minutes with several full stops and shut downs during the four (4) hours.  Now some of this time will be climbing to altitude and doing basic maneuvers and flying to and from the training area.

Now stay with me on this Dave...you said you always wanted to fly an aeroplane...why...damned if I know...but have you thought about this?
Take that $1000.00 and put it towards a pilots licence, ultra light, recreational, private but that is something you might want to look at.  Please take the time and talk to some other fellas like Sean and  Brett on this forum and get their input on this.  I do not know the United States FAA regulations as I am in Canada but these guys will be glad to give you their opinion, I am sure of it.  :)

That $1000.00 to me Dave will get you started towards your dream of flight and you have a whole year to save a little extra to add to it.

That is just my humble two cents worth Dave, maybe your dream could be to have your first dual lesson on your 40th birthday and that is your decision and yours only.

Whatever you decide Dave I know you will have fun.   ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

It certainly does seem like a blast, and although Trucker makes a good point, what you pay extra for in that situation is the dogfighting. There's another "fighter" up there for you to scrap with.

But... if you're more excited about getting just some aerobatics dual in a nice machine, I'd advise you to just go get some aerobatics dual in a nice machine, like a Zlin, Extra, or Pitts... with the instructor, that will be about $200/hr give or take, and most of that time will be flying aerobatics.  ;)

If you want a enjoyable aerobatics lesson that won't cost a arm and a leg, find someone who offers them in a Stearman .
I did last year and it was probably one of the most enjoyable times I ever had in a aircraft. The PIC was none other than Skip Stewart so he put me through a complete air show routine, AWESOME!

Sounds like a blast Dave, I've always wanted to try that myself, but it's a little expensive for me right now, so hopefully someday. ;) 8-)
