I love these

Got this in my email today. Always good for a laugh. :)

Dearest One,

Good to write you. I have a proposal for you, this however is not mandatory nor will I in any manner compel you to honour against your will.
I am Mrs. Michelle Ogae, the wife of Mr. Michael Ogae my husband was a highly reputable business magnet (a cocoa merchant) who operated in the capital of Ivory Coast during his days. It is sad to say that he passed away mysteriously after one of his business trips abroad, though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by his uncle who travelled with him at that time.

Before his death he called me in the hospital and told me that he has the sum of  fifteen million, five hundred thousand United State Dollars in a trunk  box (US$15.500,000) Which he deposited in one of the security companies here in Cote d

Yeah! And all I had to do was give them my Social Security Number. Easy, right? They said to check my bank account in the morning and that I would be very surprised.

It can only be good, I'm sure. :) ;D

Not because he's dead, mind you, but because she doesn't have $15,500,000 dollars in her hand. She will also generously leave $15.50 in your account for future use (no matter how many zeros are added, anything after the dot is a percentage of a dollar).

Ah, a classic 419 scam story (419 is the number of the law the Nigerian government made against these things). I always reply to these e-mails asking for 85 Euro to open a savings account. I wonder why they never answer me.........

Crash ;)

What, is there no such thing as trust left in the world?  I'm still expecting my 100,000 gallons of Nigerian gasoline to arrive any day now.   Wonder what's taking them so long?

Now permit me to ask these few questions:
1. Can you honestly help me as a widow?

No; I cannot be a widow, so that's out.

2. Can I completely trust you?

Sure... as much as I can completely trust you.   ;D

3. What percentage of the total amount in question will be good for you after the fund is been transferred to your care?

Not much, really... say, one hundred percent? That OK?   ;D

She will not leave anything at all in anyone's account... this is a notorious scam, still going strong despite major publicity worldwide. The next step is for them to ask for funds to handle the fees or bribes required... this is where you get burned.
In some case they request your presence in Nigeria, where you will be robbed and most likely murdered. This actually happened to some guy not long ago- he escaped with his life, but told the press he was still convinced he'd get his money back, even though uniformed police were among the people who robbed him (can't find a link to that story; too bad).   ::)

The only part of it that's true is that the scammers are usually based in Nigeria, which has become a hotbed of electronic con artists and hackers.
Barnum was right: there's a sucker born every minute.   ::)

I was saying that with jovial sarcasm, relative to the message as typed. I've received a mesage like this before by snail mail (not sure if it was Nigeria but somewhere in Africa); the "your court presence may be necessary for the final arrangement" was included in the message but no request for my social security number, just the bank account number. I remember having the thought to open a bank account in my dad's name (he's dead), emptying it and giving them that. :P
