I think there's alot of Americans who resist being told to implement a new idea, but they're willing to be sold on a new idea.  Don't tell me to buy flourescent light bulbs because they will save the planet.  But I can buy the idea of buying them because they'll reduce my energy costs!   :)

Light bulbs...energy saving light bulbs???   :-?

What are you lot going on about now?

The old girl gets up in the morning, takes a wooden match, lights it and puts to coal oil soaked wick and covers flame with glass mantle.

Sometimes we have to get out the candles when we run low on coal oil, but what the devil are these light bulbs you lot are going on about?

Something might be amiss outside the colony.   ::)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

"How about getting energetic, and going out and mowing that bleedin' grass in your back garden?".... >:(....!

A local hardware shop has a special offer on patio heaters. Now if that's not a complete waste of energy I would like to know what is. The same shop also stocks energy-saving light bulbs at full price. ::)

The tiki torch will solve all your heating and lighting woes, stock up!

Supermarkets have a lot to answer for & all this plastic, hermetically sealed packaging is completely unnecessary. ::)
I was recently shocked: potatoes and sweet potatoes, all individually wrapped in plastic wrap. Worse, a label stating, "Please wash before use." What? They wasted plastic wrap to intentionally envelope the dirt on them to make sure there was something to wash off? ::) >:(

Paul the difference basically is that:
Energy saving lightbulbs take a minute to "warm up" to get to max brightness. Normal lightbulbs are instant. The energy savers tend to be longer and ugly, but they use up about 1/10 of the electricity. They also last longer.

You are quite right about them being expensive. Go to Lidl - there must be one near you. As with all their food and other items they sell them REALLY cheap. I never figured why you use Sainsbury's.  :-/They are almost as expensive as Marks and Spencers. I did a quick store search for you and I think this is somewhere near you. I know you have a covenant relationship with Sainsburys, but I would suggest you make a day trip to Lidl. Oh and bring your own bags - they charge for theirs! :o Bring rival supermarket ones - they love that.  ;D

I've been using those cork screw looking energy saving bulbs for awhile now for some of my lamps.  They're great, use less power, and last longer.  Highly recommend them.

Paul, as you are of "pensionable" age you should get them for free, just ask at the DWP or your local council. You've paid tax all your life, get something back!

My missus is registered disabled and our local council gave us 5 free energy saving light bulbs to go in the 6 light sockets we have...

LOL.... ;D...!

Going to Lidl is like going into my garden shed and meeting all the human drop-outs that 'im-up-there ever created..... :o....
..trust me...;)...!

..now Sainsbury's is for posh people....like me...with loadsamoney....for cheap incandescent light bulbs.... ::)...!

Our Bargain Super Store, (opposite Salisbury's), is Aldi* (a German firm?) with lots of good, and cheap, "stuff"...
..but the class of person visiting there is not as "up-market" as the Sainsbury's regular shoppers.... 8-)...!

Paul...Posh, and up-market... 8-)...!

* I may pop in there, under cover of darkness, to see if they have got any cheap Energy Saving light bulbs on special offer... ::)..... ;)....!
