Some of our younger members might scoff & call me a silly old fool
That may be the case for some Doug, but all things considered many of the younger members (I no longer consider myself so

You're neither silly, nor old, nor foolish. Courtesy is a universal value to which we should all aspire. Who wants to get to the end of their life and reflect on all the people they have made to feel small, insignificant or worthless? Excluding actual bodily harm what greater indictment of a life wasted can there be than that?
If every human aspired to courtesy what a different world it would be.....
Which reminds me of Michael Asher's book "The Real Bravo Two Zero".....an interesting insight to the nature of Bedouin culture, where even blood enemies were welcomed into the camp and given sustenance. Courtesy and generosity, and the reputation for providing it, was more prized than any material wealth.
