Loss of a dear friend

Postby RitterKreuz » Sun Mar 04, 2007 11:06 pm

So my life long friend has decided he will tie the knot on one of the most glorious and holy of holidays, St. Patrick's day.

...and this past weekend was the bachelor party bash in the Big Easy - New Orleans, LA!

what a time we had!

We met at my place Friday morning around 9:00am and loaded up the 5 of us into 2 cars and headed out for the 7 1/2 hour drive to New Orleans. When we got there we checked into the hotel, relaxed a bit after the road trip and got ready to head out into the night life.

We were staying at the Holiday Inn on Carondelet Street right across Canal Street from Bourbon Street... walking distance of about 1 minute to the bars. We started out with a couple of rounds of famous Hurricanes from Pat O'Brien's and discussed old times with the condemned man. We each had some fun stories to tell and some great filth to slander the poor ba$tards name! Each tale more fantastic than the previous and each one followed by booming laughter. He is the best friend i ever had - we hadn't been out in town for more than an hour and it was already shaping up to be one of the best nights of our lives with this poor pitiful man who is so near the end!

Pat O'Briens was great, but after the second round of the strong red drinks we knew we better start moving from bar to bar before we were too inebriated to move at all!

Off we went in search of a gentleman's club to show the poor boy all the fine things in life he would be signing away on the 17th! Larry Flynt's Hustler Club was as good a place as any! It was his first time in a place of that nature that we were aware of so we showed him a hell of a time!  ;D

but we didnt come to New Orleans to stuff all of our money down these young ladies little undies! out we went in search of other clubs to spend the evening. We must have gone into every bar on the street and had at least one round of some exotic drink of local fame! The street scene became more and more a blur of neon lights and flying bead necklaces as the night went on - i'll spare you the details, but no doubt thanks being owed to my good friends we all awoke the next morning safe and sound moaning in agony in our bunks! our vows to swear off alcohol were quickly broken by lunch time!

Day two consisted of taking in the local sights and history of the area, we must have walked up and down every street from bourbon to the waterfront!

My only regret is that out of 5 friends - not one of us remembered to bring our cameras!!!!

just like so many wonderful times before these moments will be forever etched in our memories as we celebrate the loss of yet another dear friend.

So - to all inclined to do so - raise up a toast to the brave young man named Joe, as he takes the plunge, and signs away all hope of happiness and wealth. He was my best friend - i will surely miss him!  ;D  :'(

CHEERS ALL! thanks for reading!

I hoped to take her along! she's the exception, not the rule when it comes to a wife.

get two hurricanes into my "old lady" and you've got a helluva time on your hands!

;D ;D ;D

Ritter... :)

Have you looked at it this way, maybe you are not losing a dear friend but maybe you are gaining another one?   ;)

Here we have what we call a "Stag" which is a party of all the grooms to be male friends.  Money is raised through tickets, liquor/beer sales, raffles, gambling and donations for the new groom.  The grooms best man usually organizes this event and takes care of the poor fella.
I have known instances where some grooms have gone clear out to the coast by train in their bedroom attire with no money and no identification. Sometimes I do think stags can get carried away especially when guys think they can drive after drinking 24 hours straight.  Ever try to tell a drunk anything?   ::)

What you have just described is what we call "Bar Hopping".  Lots of fun and entertaining at times.  By the time you finish you really need a taxi to get home as it can be a long walk.  :)

You picked a wonderful city to go to and it sounds like you all had a great time.  ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
