I remember with great fondness the time (1950-) when Television and Radio sets were full of various transformers, valves (tubes), tuning condensers, carbon resistors, waxed paper capacitors, large electrolytic capacitors, etc....
All very easy to replace whenever they went wrong, which, as an electrical/electronics engineer, I was always kept very busy repairing them for the local community...

With modern "custom" electronics integrated into compact circuit boards, nothing is "fixable" now, in our "throw away" society...
