I remember with great fondness the time (1950-) when Television and Radio sets were full of various transformers, valves (tubes), tuning condensers, carbon resistors, waxed paper capacitors, large electrolytic capacitors, etc....

All very easy to replace whenever they went wrong, which, as an electrical/electronics engineer, I was always kept very busy repairing them for the local community...
...(material costs only).... ;)...!

With modern "custom" electronics integrated into compact circuit boards, nothing is "fixable" now, in our "throw away" society... :'(...!

Buggar... >:(...!

Paul...out of a job!.... :-/...!

Our first Television set was a 9 inch tube,  Bush Television Receiver, in a Bakelite case... :-*...!

Who remembers "console" TVs, the original "entertainment centers"?
We had something like this in the living room when I was a kid... b&w, of course... took my dad a long time to break down and buy a color set, but it didn't matter much, as most programs were not shot in color  yet anyway... ;D

Built-in radio and turntable... mono, of course! :D

Likewise, Foz; it's become cheaper to replace the entire circuit board than the circuitry and cheaper to replace the entire television than the circuit board.
