Doesn't surprise me from what I hear, though I have had little to do with either city.

As for Aberdeen I regularly use the buses which are often cramped. Even big meaty mean young looking men give up their seats even for a lady in her 50's. I've been quite impressed by the behaviour of people in Aberdeen actually as far as politeness goes, but for one exception; drivers. They are the worst, most ill-mannered thugs I have met anywhere in the UK. If they see you crossing the road they speed up to make you run and it's a nightmare on the bike going to uni. They are deliberately awkward and I have been nearly hit many times and almost killed once or twice. Personally I haven't been struck yet, but my sister has had several minor hits.

I gave up standing for women on buses in Liverpool years ago after I got verbally abused for being a sexist b**tard when I offered a pregnant girl a seat. Likewise for the elderly after watching them intimidate some poor school kid, who was obviously in distress, out of a seat at the front of a bus even though there were plenty of seats further back.

Personally I wouldn't care what any feminist said or a miserable old fogie, I've been taught by my British culture what should be expected and I intend on putting it into practice. I certainly have never seen anything like what you have said.

Unbelievable that a pregnant woman couldn't be gracious about your offer... if there's any justice in this world, some day you'll meet again- as you both try to board the last lifeboat of a sinking ship.  

I haven't been turned down yet when offering to stand for a pregnant lady- maybe New York women are just classier.

But "gempers"- old people- different story in the Big Apple. In the subway, on line at the supermarket, wherever- they will simply trample you if you are in their way. And those bony elbows are sharp!!

Come to Homestead in Florida and you'll a bunch of rude people around here. You should've seen the mess they left behind in the Valentine isle at Walgreens. Teddy bears are littered all over the dirty floor, coupons strung up everywhere, sealed candy bags torn open [without even buying them], merchandise made out of glass are broken [customers kept tossing them back into the shelf], customers keep misplacing merchandise [as a result, when another customer comes in and see the same thing, they assume that the price label below  - although it's the wrong one - is the legitimate price and then they start complaining at the employees when the prices are higher than expected], etc. And this kind of thing happens all year long and it gets worse when certain holidays come around. On top of that, I have a one or two co-workers who tend to be under achievers when given a task. One of them was even eating and drinking on the job while walking around with a bag of doritos on his vest pocket [clearly visible] and a bottle of coka cola on the other [also clearly exposed].  ::)
