Are they complete fascists (too good a word) where you live?

my wife got pulled over this morning by one of those piggys and he gave her a ticket for 40 mph in a 35 zone. She also keeps her insurance card in the center console but when the new cards came in i put it in the side pocket of the door therefor she was unable to locate it (DOH!) he busted her for that too. We just moved to a duplex and her address was wrong on her license and he put that on the ticket as well.  >:(

Motorcycle cops are the only type of cops other cops have warned me about!

i had an old veteran cop pull me over for running a stop sign ages ago - i had just picked this cute girl i was interested in up from a class of hers and we were talking and i sailed right through it directly in front of the officer that - despite being in plain view - i never saw him.

he lets me off with a verbal warning that goes a little something like this

"Just be careful out there, i doubt you did that on purpose with me sitting right next to you haha, but i will tell you this, at the police briefing this morning i heard that the motorcycle cops will be on heavy patrol on main street as well as the loop... be carful, you dont want to get pulled over by one of those guys. they are like evil machines that drown their young in the toilet in the morning before going to work just so they can get psyched up!"

i laughed said thanks and drove away.

some of these guys just dont have anything else to do besides mess with the average joes of this country. i mean 5 mph that is ridiculous! now she will have to go show a judge her insurance card, and spend hard earned money and a full precious day off on a defensive driving course.  >:(

that said, i do feel like Texas has the MOST courteous and professional highway patrol staff in the USA on the other hand

Hmm the card in the door... shouldn't have been nailed for that if it was in the car, 5 over the limit? Thats completely legal, you can't be pulled over unless you do 6 over.... at least here in michigan anyways, and you just moved? Well your licence doesn't get updated ASAP.... The only thing that cop should have done was give her a verbal warning if anything, I don't even think he had a real reason to pull her over.... Hmm strange things these police do. I don't even have my licence yet....

From my personal experience, motorcycle cops are complete a$$holes, but still some of the most amazing people alive...

...I had one make fun of my mother in front of me (If only I didn't hate my mother so much...)

Grosse Pointe cops are quite nice...they don't do anything unless you really did something wrong. I never been pulled over, and people say I drive like a maniac!

...btw, some cop let one of my friend's off with a DUI, so apperantly, short skirts and lots of crying really do work!...

well according to her (when she got home) it was a school zone and i guess it doesnt matter in those what your speed is above the limit. I am familiar with the school zone she told me about... it is wierd - a couple of blocks away from the actual school but supposedly kids are known to occasionally cross there i guess... though in my lifetime of living in this town i might have seen ONE high school senior cross that road.  ::) it is a bit far away from anything recognizable as a school. the only school there i know of is about 3 streets over.

she was nailed for insurance because she couldnt produce the "proof of insurance" required here in TX... she couldnt produce proof of insurance because she couldnt find the card that I personally put in the car because i guess i put it in a place she didnt think to look in.

and on updating the license address - apparently here in TX you have to go to the DPS office and fill out a form or do it online which she hasnt taken the time to do. It has to be done within X amount of days. My address on my license hasnt changed from my dads house since i was 16 years old despite the fact that i have lived in probably 5 different places since then - that was 11 years ago... when asked "is this your correct address?" i just say "yes, it is."

just as a comparison to state troopers - i got busted on the interstate going 85 in a 70 with no front license plate attached to my car (they are required here). the cop takes a look at my license, runs my plates through his computer, verifies my insurance and says "ok sir, just a verbal warning today, try and respect the speed limits out here, i dont want you to be late getting to where your going but i would much rather you got there safely instead ok? have a nice day now."

i was like  :o   "ok" shook his hand and left  :D

In Hungary they just put the On The Spot fine straight into their pocket in front of you [smiley=thumbdown.gif]
Mind you I used to live in the Thames Valley area, they're acknowledged to be the biggest bar-stewards in Blighty! They even nick other cops

Here in Germany, 85 mph on the Autobahn, you would be the slowest car out their. I have legally driven at 160 mph, though the police could argue that it was unsafe for the relevant road conditions, which at the time was not, and no, I wont be doing again. Big smile at the end, but wife and kiddies at home.

As for the handshake, a bit of brown nosing does not do any harm, I was once stopped for 110 mph on a short stretch of Autobahn that  has a 70 mph limit. It was a fair stop and I was in glorious Technicolour thanks to his on board video, so banged to rights. Got chit chatting about other things, and found a common link. He gave me my papers back and told me to pay a little more attention and let me go. It should have cost me points and a large donation to the local government coffers.
