What part of..........

Postby expat » Sun Feb 04, 2007 12:04 pm

What part of, written by Ozzy: "This is getting a bit political/prejudiced. Please cool it guys or I'll have to lock the thread. We've had the pro/anti-gun argument I don't know how many times and it always ends in tears.... mind you that is what happens when we lock anyone in the broom cupboard with Kevins toilet! Makes CS gas look like perfume" in the "Great Britain.....not so great" thread do some people not understand.  ::) ::) ::)

Nothing like jumping in with both feet, reading the last post and having no idea what the entire conversation is about and getting a thread locked. Generally, said warning is, if not above your post, then a couple above it. It happens time and time and time again.  ::) ::)

Sometimes rather than lock a thread that could carry on if a remark or two was not posted, why can't MODS just remove the offending words and replace it with something similar to the warning that replaces a picture that does not meet the sites requirements. E.g, removed, see MODS warning already posted. This would be no more censorship than having a thread locked, but would enable the thread to stay on track. Obviously, a thread that is going really down hill should be locked, but if it is only two people or so that cannot read, why lock the thread.

Well Matt the site has clearly laid-down guidelines. I gave a friendly warning but the pro/anti-gun lobbies couldn't leave things lie... And frankly our workload is already pretty hefty sometimes without editing posts 'cos people refuse to obey the rules...
Better a little bad tasting medicine rather than letting a free-for-all happen when people think they can post whatever they like and the mods job is to clean-up behind them.
Frankly if you're unable to wipe your own botty you shouldn't be here - as the saying goes ;)

Quite true and fair enough, it was just a though/suggestion

We mods are always open to good ideas but with over 1000 posts a day here that wasn't one of 'em ;)
The other things the mods are always open for is free beer ;) ;) ;)

SimV is a police state, say anything they dnt like and BAM locked and or banned.
but it is necessary to have the rules and on such a large forums like this one they have to be enforced or else it just gets out of hand and all hell breaks loose

WOW  :o that thread snowballed fast. i have been gone for several days and just checked in...

Certainly i did not mean to bring any politics into the discussion by just making an off the wall comment about self defense rights...sorry if one short sentence of my statement which was meant to defend the greatness of another nation eventually caused the thread to be locked. Guess I (and others) will have to choose our words a bit more carefully in the future.

Perhaps replies on any controversial level should have stopped with the warning which appeared in the actual thread?

regards

The warning came well after your post, I was not pointing any fingers, just try to show how easy it is to get a thread locked by the escalation of a one liner. I think that we have now seen in a lot of threads what the gun topic can produce.

i didnt take it that way - i never felt like anyone was pointing fingers. :) we're all on the same team here

but since my post was the first to mention the subject i feel a bit responsible - i seriously didnt even consider it to be an issue until long after it was posted. no big deal, live and learn.  ;)
