I know what comes of locking something prematurely and it is this ,another thread wanting a explanation and/or new threads on the same topic but with more bitter replies than the original.

Well to get technical the whole thought of a "public forum" is the essence of political. A place for people to discuss their differences, debate current events etc, with one or more individuals is politics.
Better lock down the whole site!
