US .50 cal machine guns were used in WW2 to shoot down armoured aircraft and could kill light armoured vehicles such as halftracks and armoured cars.

The M2 50 cal machine gun has to be my favorite weapon to fire. I get a rush every time I fire it.... 8-)

I'm a gunner, so I have a couple 50 cal machine guns, and a 240B machine gun.

I have heard that the percussion from a near miss of a 50 cal round can hurt, but I don't know to what extent.

Btw Romulus, it is possible to fire an M2 50 cal with it slung, but I wouldn't advise it. My squad leader used to be a little crazy, and one day at a range, someone dared/bet him that it couldn't be done. My squad leader made a makeshift sling with 550 chord, chambered a round, and fired it. The reqoil was a B***H, but he won the bet

I've heard of soldiers firing the M2 with similar results. Now the M107 .50 caliber Barret is a sweet weapon!

I even heard a rumor that some dimwit tried to fire a 106 recoilless rifle from his shoulder. It might be possible, after watching one of those things bounce a jeep around. I didn't want to try it....lmao

I know the M2 has a nice reqoil. If you mount a 50 cal on an 1114 up armoured humvee, leave the brakes un set, and fire it pointed towards the front, it will rock the humvee back and forth

Yea, the M2 could rattle a jeep apart. Most of the time they used .30 cals on jeep mounts. At least during WWII and Korea. I actually saw a quad .50 mounted on a Korean War era halftrack in south Saigon. It was an ARVN unit and still had the old canisters. Cool looking weapons system.
