Thirsty?

Postby expat » Tue Nov 14, 2006 12:02 pm

Whilst on a short stop over in Palma de Mallorca last week, I made my way to one of the airport cafes and bought a Coke. Nothing particularly remarkable about this action, one I have done in may airports around the world. What was remarkable was the price. I bought a half litre bottle, or just about a pint or just over 17 fluid ounces depending on your part of the world. Here at home, I would expect to pay

Half a litre is nearer 1 pint but I agree that's excessive, even for an airport outlet.

I dare you to go for a drink in one of the bars at Piazza Barberini in Rome! That should give you a whole different view on expensive drinks... I saw a group of schoolboys go pale when offered the bill...  ;D

My advice is DON'T go to Vienna, it is the most expensive I've encountered anywhere. I've not been there for years but they tried a similar thing with me for a pint of beer and I told them to go poke it in their bottom when they told be how much (this was when they still had Schillings)! I'd guesstimate they're charging about 11 Euros a pint for watered down urine these days.

On that point can you remember how much we were charged in that bar on our last little outing in London? I know it hit my wallet pretty hard.

I did enjoy that day out. We should arrange another one some time. Heard from Will recently?

I've talked with Tony and had a chat with Roger about the possibililtes presented by next summer as I'll be over. I think an airshow meet is looking likely. I fancy Old Warden oddly enough.
I've not spoken to Will recently, I think he changed his email address (again) 'cos he isn't responding ::)
We'll discuss it nearer the time and see what is happening airshow wise methinks Doug ;) Just gotta find one with a Spitfire or twenty at it 'cos I'm feeling deprived!!!!

Biggin Hill seems to tick your boxes Mark. Also it's close to 2 international airports (Gatwick & Heathrow) for any non UK members who wish to attend.
Rob.
Oh, and it's also near my house.. ;D  ;)
