. I just wonder why people are so eager to deny it or say 'bring it on'.

And I wonder why everyone who does believe we need to do something to stop global warming starts by telling ME what to do.  Why not tell me what they do?  My bet is they drive the recycling to the end of their driveway in an Escalade, in which they commute 2 hours to work alone.  Meanwhile they're telling me to carpool or ride a bike to work.

The environment is a wonderful thing to tell everyone ELSE to be concerned about.

Very, very true.  We are not going to combat any potential problem with volunteers-it's that simple guys, and I think it would be naive to think that it would ever succeed, people voluntarily giving up or cutting back on their leisures.  If there is a major problem, only government intervention can have any dent. (raising fuel prices, instituting a fuel tax, subsidizing alternative energy, etc.)

Also Chris, I'm pretty sure it's also known that CO2 does cause an increased greenhouse effect-its very rare in the atmosphere, but it only takes a small amount to raise the temps.  If I remember correctly, it is causation.

expend a bit of effort ourselves

Which is the problem with people. ;)  I agree that something could be done, and there are people doing it, in fact I hear almost everyday from my thermodynamics professor what is being done around campus here, projects like building a "Future Truck" and more efficient snowmobile, so there is someone out there working on it.  I'm just saying you probably won't see those people working on it walking around with signs on their backs that say, "Hey look at me and look at what I'm doing", or posting in forums about the problems with the world, those people will actually be fixing the problem instead of just complaining, which is what needs to be done. ;)
