Be Careful what you write

Postby Helms » Sat Sep 30, 2006 4:44 pm

Earlier today i found out that a friend of mine got fired because she posted a blog on myspace saying how her boss was such a b*tch. However she didn't say who her boss was, or where she worked at, so it couldve been a past job that she was talking about

Now ive heard that you can sue someone if you get fired for reasons like that, but you have to have what you wrote for proof.

Now, she is probably going have to move again soon. >:(

that will be the 9th time in 3 years >:(

I feel sory for her. I used to write all about my evil boss in my blog at my old job, and I would do this at work. I always thought that I was careful enough not to give away enough info to get caught. But as it later turns out, the IT guy felt pretty much the same way about my boss as I did (and so did everyone else), and I'm convinced that that is why I never got in any trouble over it. That evil woman couldn't check her own email, so any of that sort of info would have to come from the IT guy. :P

Did you're friend do this while at her job? If not, then she might have a case.

no that can't hold up to be honest, if she hadn't stated where she worked or who her boss was then its just hearsay and can sue, especially if she pleads that someone hacked her profile and wrote it. Seems like something very trivial to me and if that was the action taken by her boss then she really is a bitch

Well it seems almost stupid for her to say things like that in a PUBLIC BLOG.  I mean, come on, have some sense.  I dont see any reason why you cant flame your boss, but at least do it privately.

Well then how does this happen to the people on Facebook sometimes?  Especially that Facebook is Private to everyone but the people you've friended.

Not true, you can view the full profile of people in your circle of friends. So if say you flame a person, and your both in the group "Boston MA" they can see what you said.

However it does suck, as many companies are now writing into their handbooks that anything posted on a internet site (myspace etc) can be used against you.

Cheers

Just tell her to tell the authorities he sexually harrased her, it would be hearsay just like a blog post, with bigger concequences :0

Personally if I hate my boss I go elsewhere, i don't understand why people continue to work at a place thier unhappy.
And the excuse "they can't find another job anywhere" is crap, work is there if you look for it.
If you don't enjoy your job or your boss then there is no use doing it, you are less productive and it makes your life miserable.

I just recently quit my full time job due to the fact my boss had the idea that "I needed my job", lol yeah right.
So now I am taking time off and went back to school for a change of pace.

I would think that she should have learned her lesson by now. Be very careful what you put in writing or it could be used against you, possibly many years from now . ::)

I suspect that these people that get caught out are accessing their blogs from work. Otherwise I can't see how they could be traced.

friend-ed

Another unnecessary new word when a perfectly good one already exists. ::)  It's befriended with no hyphens.

Excuse me, I meant "added to Friends list."

Sorry. I shouldn't pontificate on things I know nothing about.

I didn't mean to be rude, it's just the internet has sort of change the English language quite a bit, just the other day my English teacher said "yes, that's funny, LOL for you guys."  :P

That's defamation, pure and simple. Legally she deserved to be fired.

I'm sorry but thats the way it goes.
