Email isues

Postby Triple_7 » Tue Sep 26, 2006 1:48 am

Anyone else having some trouble with Yahoo today ???

It wont let me access my email...or if it does let me in I cant read them, expecting a couple of very important ones and need to be able to access them as soon as I can.  One is already sitting in the inbox.

Also cant access my photos without getting a ton of errors.  I have a massive order to send in to be printed after a couple more uploads and now I cant even do that :(

I've only had trouble since about 4 PM EST.  Still isnt working :-/

I've cleared cookies and all the excess internet junk off and didnt get anywhere.  Any ideas or info on this little isue ???

I use Gmail. The spam filter works like magic when it comes to billions of names being randomly used [even when misspelled] in a spam mail. Only 1 or 2 spam messages get through out of about 100 of those suckers that get marked automatically as spam by Gmail.

I still can't see how so many people have these spam issues?
Everyone I know complains about getting hundreds of emails a day. And since I have ever been online I may get one or two emails that can be called spam a week, and that is with a total of 7 email addresses by various providers. I don't use any of the spam blocking features becasue too many times it blocks email I want.

So I don't think it really has much to do with who or what you use for email, I think it has to do more with what your doing with your addresses.  ;)

Funny old do....

I have exactly the same problems as ALROT with Spam Mail.

It all comes from similar vague addresses as ALROT detailed, and I receive hundreds of them each day which my Service Provider filters out for me and places them in a separate "Junk Mail" folder, which I then have to empty many times a day... >:(...!

I have the choice of using both Firefox and Outlook Express and most of the Spam appears in my Firefox mail box...!

Why this happens, I have no idea, nor where they obtain my e-mail address from...!

Even though I run "Spybot" regularly to delete the various Spyware/Mailware addresses which sometimes appear, it still comes flooding in...:'(...!

I would really love to know how Poli manages to avoid it...;)...!

I've had no problems with Yahoo recently, yesterday or today.  But I've switched to Lycos for sending files, I'm on a dial up, Lycos recently changed its e-mail format, and now, even on dial up, its hugely faster than Yahoo.

Spam?  Well, we've been through this before: Take out another e-mail box, use an slightly complex alpha-numeric address, don't give out that address to ANYONE for awhile, and see what happens.  Report spam, if your e-mail has a provision for that, and don't ever reply to spam.

I've got several Yahoo addresses and one Lycos address, they have been completely free of spam.

We can be smarter than the spammers.

If, as you suggest, you take out another alternative E-Mail address, what prevents all the spam from being downloaded into your original address, which you have to maintain for access to your Service Provider via your modem, etc...?

I have only ever used one common Internet connection address and E-Mail address, and it is one that I am recognised by for all those who contact me, so I am somewhat confused as to the benefits of generating extra/alternative Mail addresses....
...and what would they be used for?....:-[...!

Well...after a lot of swearing and beating my head on the keyboard I managed to get through the hundreds of errors and get my pictures sent to printing.  Email finally started working again this morning.  I have 3 Yahoo addresses and all were out.

As for spam...dont really have a problem with it.  Yahoo bulk folder takes in hundreds a day and one click takes care of them.  Very rarely do I have one slip into my inbox ;)

Other services I have used when on dial-up had so much spam I couldnt keep up :-/

Well Fozz how I do it? I really don't know.
I have email addresses from my ISP, a few Hotmail accounts, a couple MyWay accounts and also 1 AOL account.
And the AOL account is the one I get a few bits of Spam in.

I use one account as described above for registering on websites, which is where I think most spam originates from. Forum bots can get in a site and steal addresses.
That and I chew out anyone that sends me forwarded emails, becasue then your address is sent to literally thousands of people you have never met.

My Ex-wife for example thinks that every forwarded email she gets i will be interested in, well Im not interested and since she refused to stop sending them to me, I have now blocked her from my email. lol

If I understand Fozzer's point correctly, then my response is that I do not use my ISP (AOL), for e-mail, that way I can change addresses easily.

Also, Politically Incorrect's statement re: telling your friends to not send forwarded or chained e-mails is a good idea.
