Just saw this on the bbc news site. :(

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has suffered a "significant brain injury" after crashing a jet-powered car at speeds of up to 300mph during filming.

I just came to say the same. This is very sad. I doubt he'll be in the presenting chair again. :(

Being truthful, I share your view Ben - if he does pull through, he won't be on Top Gear or any other show for a long time, if at all... very sad indeed :( :'(

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has suffered a "significant brain injury" after crashing a jet-powered car at speeds of up to 300mph during filming.
Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said they were "reasonably optimistic" the 36-year-old would make a good recovery.

:( :(

But does this mean he has permanent brain damage or will he make a full recovery over time?

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the news media. They don't know any more than I do. He could die or make a full recovery. Time will tell.

PS. I haven't watched Top Gear for a long time but I wish him well. Hope this doesn't give the do-gooders the chance they've been waiting for. I'm sure that neither he nor his family would want that.

Though it would be sad if they did, I don't think they will. Richard wouldn't want them to I'm pretty sure, but then again this is the BBC.. ::)

Top Gear is one of the most watched programmes on any channel. There is no way they'll be taking it off the air just because of this.

knowing what he is like, if he does make a partial recovery, he would probably try to break the land speed record in a wheel chair or something like that

Top Gear has been around longer than the Hamster, May and Clarkson, so long may it continue...

Nice to hear his doctors are being optimistic though.

Hopefully he'll be fine...terrible for it to happen! He won't be on television for a while, but from what I've heard, he could well be back!
