the NFL pool

Postby Craig. » Tue Jul 18, 2006 10:49 am

well after getting a yes from Richie and Bman, we have decided to bring back the NFL pool for another year. with preseason 3 weeks away we thought it would be a good idea to give it a practise run with those games.
I am posting this for those to say if they are interested in joining in again this year.
For the newer members, basically every week, I will post the games that are being played on the sunday/monday of that week. You then predict the winners and over the course of the season we accumulate the totals to decide a winner. Your welcome to join in at any time during the season just for a bit of fun really.
Please dont use the posts to bash American football or compair it to rugby and so on. Use this one for it instead ;) ;D

Yay!  Its that time of year again.  I can't believe this is the fourth year we have done this already.

Let me just say it now...the Carolina Panthers will be the Super Bowl XLI champions!!!  ;)

Miami Dolphins all the way!

Geez, I can hardly type this with a straight face.  We'll be lucky if we get a wild card.

Hey, I don't know-Miami is looking better and better.  I think they will have a strong year.  Hopefully they will be starting Harrington over Culpepper though.

Who will face the Broncos in the playoffs and once again realise they cant win against them. Billy and Brady will crumble to pieces and Jake will school them all again ;D
Glad to see a good reception for this, thats the great thing about it. You dont need to know much about football, just pick the names you like most really. I'll total up the results so you dont even have to do any research into it. ;D

I kind of get the feeling that Peyton Manning will have the same fate as Dan Marino.  He will be one of the greatest QBs of all time but for whatever reason will never win one dispite being on an excellent team.  Dan Marino was to Joe Montana as Peyton Manning is to Tom Brady.

If the Colts can just do something about their defense especiially the secondary then they would be almost unbeatable. they wont go 13-0 this year though thats for sure.

I suppose what I mean is the current Colts teams is very simular to the 1984 Miami Dolphins team.  In that season, Marino threw 48TDs and 5000yds, their offense scored what was then a record number of points (I think the Rams broke that record in 1999).  But, that team didn't win the Super Bowl.  Although they did go to the Super Bowl (lost to 49ers 38-16).

That Dolphins team started the season 11-0 and finished with a record of 14-2.  Although that was the only team Marino took to the Super Bowl, they were very good for a few seaons.  They had been to the playoffs several years in a row up to that point and in 1985 they delt that amazing Bears team their only loss.  The '85 Dolphins made it all the way to the AFC title game (and they should have won).

Anyway, I just get the feeling the Colts will have a simular fait.
