The Taepodong 2 is crap. No need to worry. It fell into the sea. It failed. The other one couldnt touch you. If there is a war, it'll be round 2 for the RBE. However, with those missiles that could reach Seoul in under an hour, no one will be attacking anyone. More trade sanctions and more North Koreans will go hungry.

Whats the worry? All fears of North Korea stem from the Korean War and Koreas backing by the USSR. They're doing nothing that any other country that has developed missiles hasn't already done. The Koreans arn't going to use these missiles to start a war against America. The only thing that could possibly start a war is America striking blind at a threat thats not actually there.

it's just like a little nasty dwarf kicking against the legs of a giant... Come on, the North-Koreans must have a deathwish if they are ever to shoot at Japan, the US, Europe or whomever... They'll never know what hits them once retalliation strikes. And believe me, the North-Koreans know that too...

The really interesting part is to see China's response to all of this... After all, that one is the new big powerhouse in the world..

The biggest problem in NK, and what should be the biggest concern, world-wide..  is what's happening the the millions of innocent NK-an  citizens.

The whole thing is gonna collapse. It's on the verge of collapse now; that's why they're making so much noise. They're grasping at straws.

They have no military. no navy.. no air force.. and if they tried to mobilze that million man army; it wouldn't last very long. They've not the logistical support to do much more than wave rifles and parade around.

Now.. if a million, hungry soldiers with AK47s in hand are turned loose... That could be a problem for their neighbors, but it's no threat to the west.

North Korea in war will fight like medieval mercs: pluder anything in your path.

If this would turn nasty, in the worst case ww1 casualy numbers will be peanuts compared to what could happen there.

They are smart enough to know that they had to shut the engine down at the right moment. If the thing really performed as advertised, they wouldnt exist anymore

There is something to be worried about.  Kim Jong Whatever is a madman.  NK is on the verge of collapse.  Is Kim the type of guy to step down quietly?  Is he the type of guy to go down in a bloody coup?  Or is he the guy to try and galvanize his population behind him by going to war with a hated enemy?

And the best way to make sure he stays in power is for the US to do exactly what you warn against: strike blind at a thread that isn't actually there.  That would galvanize the population in support of him and his war.  I think the US response, to date, has been good: work with North Korea's neighbors to galvanize them against North Korea.  This really is a regional issue (especially since I don't think NK would pick their fight with the US), so regional nations are the ones who should be most involved in it.

This thread is dangerously political, however as no mud-slinging has started I'll let it run. Be warned one out of place comment and I'll lock it!
