Last time I heard worrisome footsteps behind me (and got walloped on the head and robbed 'cuz I didn't heed my "spider sense") was long before I ever logged on anywhere... and before the Internet even existed, there was a neighborhood perv insinuating himself among my very young friends and I, but fortunately, he was revealed (by a concerned adult who did a little research on him) before he could do anything.

But it's true; not everybody you chat easily with online is your pal, and not everyone who gets ahold of your particulars is honest.
Even monsters can work a computer... parents now have one more thing to be worried sick about. :P

One of the first items on the Netscape Home page:
http://channels.isp.netscape.com/tech/p ... oc=NI-ntk1

I don't think much of it involved the internet and I'm not going to go into details of my sister's life (not that I know all of it) but I'm the only child my mom has left. As rottydaddy states, "Even monsters can work a computer..." but you're only safer when they're still on the other end of the line, especially if it's not next door. Even I have given out more information than I sometimes should ( I mean "personal" information ::) ). Some of you have provided more than enough information that, had I the cash and wish to make the trip, I could quite well find you. To add to this, as I've mentioned before, I used to peruse these forums before I ever registered; I knew some of you, to some degree, before you ever knew me. Sadly, I'm the only one who knows my true thoughts and whether I truly care about you, no matter what I say. If anything bad happens to any of you, however, I'll...
yeah, there's not much I could do but mourn, is there... :'(

as I've mentioned before, I used to peruse these forums before I ever registered; I knew some of you, to some degree, before you ever knew me.

That's a very good point. It's very nice to have an open community like ours but you don't have to be a member to read the topics here or on many other similar forums. Being of an inquisitive nature (a nosy old sod) I know far more about most regulars here than they might realise or wish. You only have my word for it that I'm who I say I am. As a single man living alone I'm fully aware of the accusations that could be levelled against me so I'm always very careful about who I become friendly with online. It's a damned shame but that's the way things are nowadays. :(

I must admit to being a tad suspicious of some ex-members of this forum over the years but they have since disappeared & might have been perfectly innocent. I had no proof & it was just a gut feeling. What does worry me is what goes on in private, either by PM on this forum or in chatrooms or even AIM/MSN. I don't want to worry anyone but it's best to be aware of the risks & be careful.

PS. I've met several members of this forum who have become good friends. I always let them check me out first before making contact. If they don't like the look of me nobody is any the wiser. I think (hope) they will all confirm that I'm genuine & who I say I am. ;)

...well I flippin' never....!

Never even noticed it...!

Actually, this post count malarkey means nothing to us long-timers.... ;)...!
I just pop something in whenever there is an opportunity to add something useful/educational/amusing/ridiculous/annoying, etc to a post to pass the time of day during my very occasional periods of dubious mental awareness... ;)...!

LOL...;D...!

If someone starts asking for details make up some fun stuff like you are a 17 tonne, bright green hermaphrodite from Alpha Centurai ;D It is amazing how quick the nosey run away screaming for the hills to avoid the mentally disturbed ;D

What about a hump bridge connecting two rather large chalky cliffs? ;)
