I'm with Chris on this one. My comment about poverty in the US was more to indicate how knowledge of freedom and opportunity does not necessarily equal prosperity... although it can't hurt. ;D

I think Bill is OK; I think he really cares. And if I had that kind of dough, I'd probably take great pleasure, as he does, in giving lots of it away, not out of guilt or to appear kindly, but for the satisfaction of making a difference in someone's life.

No matter what we think of Big Bill, he has given the world a standard operating system, again no matter what we think of that system. And with our standard system we have the FS series. Would MS really bother with producing the FS series in 20 different formats to the detail level that we have today....I think not.
And before people start quoting MAC and Linus etc........When 99% of people use a product, like it or not, it is a standard.

And s for him feeling guilty for making so much money ::) Just how much money "should" MS make to keep the critics happy, because if it is not enough, he will also be in the line of fire.

The first two google hits for "QED" explain what it means.  Perhaps you've yet to be introduced to google.com?

All references on Google cited explanations which seemed to have no validity here.  I thought it perhaps some form of chat lingo.

I prefer the English mathematical use of QED, which uses a little poetic license...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I couldn't care less about what other people do with their lives. When I look at tabloids and I see Tom Cruise and whats-her-face are having a baby, whoop-dee-dee. Who cares?! If Bill wants to leave, fine. If he wants to give billions to other countries, great. But it dosen't effect me in one single way, other than I have to hear about it. And guess what? Unless you're on the recieving end of that billions of dollars contribution, it dosen't effect you either.

It may not affect me, but I can rest assured that those billions of dollars are being used to help a poor nation out [like my home country Nicaragua]. 8) ;D ;)

True. ;) But the general idea stays the same. Spotlighted people are still people and I'm sure they don't like getting made fun of, harrassed by people they don't know etc.

i thoroughly liked win98*SE*. aside from the blue screen, and him being in cahoots with norton utilities, meh...

not to mention the fact that gates ripped off the idea of DOS from the "other guy" (Jobs).

people use windows, not because its the only thing out there, but because its so familiar to everyone. 99.9% of all pc users learned how to use computers on a (IBM compatible-back in the day) PC.

good that bills stepping down, bad that hes more concerned about other places than his own country. there are over 2 million vets without health care, and over 1.2 billion was cut from vets benefits from the VA (perfect timing after theyre coming back from this war with missing pieces and PTSD).

but thats ok, because bill loves everyone else, right?

Yah, and there's 3 billion people without healthcare in the rest of the world. And more than 2 million of them are veterans of various wars fought over the last five decades. :P

In my opinion, this country is rich enough as it is. People in this country [the USA] should at least appreciate the fact that they have cereal, milk, bread, tacos, and even the internet and a car in their homes. Other countries [like Cuba] are so poor that even a bottle of milk is a luxury item while cars are mainly owned by the rich.

Look at my country for crying out loud [Nicaragua].

We are currently out of all of those items. ;D

Not to poke fun, but a lot of people in this country (USA) don't even have that. Be fortunate for what you have!

Mr. Gates only said he wouldn't be involved in day-to-day operations in 2008. I'll speculate he'll stay on as an advisor and such.
