1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Why is it a ring-tone for calls in school?  Wouldn't the jig be up once you answered the phone and started talking in the middle of class?

I can hear it and it's irritating. They were talking about this thing on my local radio station the other day, and they played it and had people call in and say whether they could hear it or not. It seemed like people from all ages were able to hear it and at the same time, other people from all ages could not. I couldn't hear it then either, but maybe my radio reception wasn't very good at the time.

It sounds like white noise.  I think.  Isn't white noise that sound the TV would make?  If so then that's what it sounds like to me.  Doesn't really grind my nerves to be honest.  But then again I didn't crank up my speakers.

18.  19 on the 18th though.  Take your pick.

I can hear it, but being subjected to annual hearing tests featuring similar frequencies I half expected too...

Don't think it's that annoying myself...

Sounds like a smoke alarm to me.

I'm pretty sure that's not something you want in your smoke alarm if only half of people can hear it

I faintly 'hear' it but it actually hurts my ears, particularly my left one. :'(

[edit]downloaded and opened it in my audio editor: 48 kilohertz or, in my case, 48 kilohurts.:P

There's no way that's 48kHz... even the youngest ears cannot interpret anything above 20kHz. What software did you check that with?
I'm guessing it's around 18 kHz, and I'm pretty surprised I could hear it!!  ;D

White noise is the entire spectrum (20Hz-20kHz) all at once, basically.

I was close... according to the NY Times, it's about 17 kHz.

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/12/techn ... 2ring.html

And bad news, kiddies: I'm 43, have been a carpenter, stagehand, soundman, rock musician and pilot for many years... and I can hear it.

But if I were in front of a crowded classroom and this tone went off in the back, I might not.
Something tells me the other kids will be complaining about this one, not the teachers- it's annoying!!

It's kinda funny... If you play the whole thing, it's painfull in the beginning, but your ear seems to adjust... after a while it doesn't sound that toruturing anymore, but when the sound stops, you feel like a pressure fall in you ears... sound... still a mysterious thing isn't it?   :)
