Insurance companies do a credit check to see how responsible you are.
Personally I don't think ones credit score proves responsibility and I told this to my Insurance agent. After making my point my cost of insurance went down, but that wasn't the only point i made.
I also pointed out that it is discrimination that me being single (divorced) and 39 , perfect record, making my rates higher compared to my friend who is of the same age but married and just got his liscence back after it being suspended 10 years for running over a cop and multiple DUIs.
Thier reasoning is that married people are more "responsible", regardless of past records, so go figure.
Most insurance companies will not deny you coverage based on credit score but some may make you pay a higher price for the first 6 months to a year, long enough to prove your responsible.
That or you don't let them bully you around and go elsewhere until you find a agent that will do business with you regardless of your credit.
