Here are a couple stories about how Hell, Michigan, was named:
In the 1830s, some Germans stepped out of a stagecoach and one said, "So schoene hell" (~ "So bright and beautiful").
After Michigan gained statehood, George Reeves, the town's main founder, was asked a what he thought the town should be called. He said, "I don't care, you can name it Hell if you want to." So they did.
On Oct. 13, 1841, it became official; if it were 3 years sooner (Oct. 13, 1838 ), it would have been on a Friday.
If any of you intend to attend the party, you can go to Hell !!!
(It's not often I get to say that)
