Mine kind of goes along with Rotty. Well, I've always loved this country, as I can see what goes on in other countries.

On Monday, I was marching in the Flemington Memorial Day parade with an, oh, about 25 pound snare drum on my belly. Everyone else was complaining about the heat, 90

When I was at Camp Lajeaune, North Carolina last July-August for training, the daily temperature and humidity was about 100 degrees and 90-100 percent, though I'm sure Vietnam is worse than North Carolina

I trained at Fort Bragg and yes, Nam was far worst. At least there were places you could go to cool off and you got showers on a regular basis at Bragg.

Well, I never experienced such temperatures  back when I was in basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas. The weather was completely opposite at the time. It was so dang cold that even my field jacket was no match for nature's cold breath. Heck, most of us who were being trained were actually glad to do exercise because it was the only task that kept us all warm. ;D ;D ;D

Not quite the same for me, Katahu. When I was at Lackland (and, to enhance the scene, still a 'rainbow') it was 85 degrees and we were being pummeled by hail :o. Then I was transferred to Mississippi (Biloxi Blues) and got into a couple of snowball fights. 8)

One of my detachments was a rebuild and I did get to serve with a few who had once been temporarily assigned to the original (blown away in Vietnam). They reported conditions not so unlike what Rom speaks of. However, what remains so harsh in my memory is that, as Air Force radar operators, they were not allowed to defend the site when it was under attack until every one of the defending Marines went down.

I know how you feel. The dumbest decision I ever made about being in the military was going to Fort Leonard Wood for Basic Training in the winter time ::)

The dumbest decision I ever made during airborne training was to jump out the back of a C-130 backwards. The mater blaster wasn't impressed and I got my ass chewed all the way to the ground. It's amazing what they can come up with to make you wish you had made a better decision.  ::)
