Damn boy, im telling you, that the CHICKEN came first!!!Whether it's about hitting the ground or so, i dont care, but it's cool they included a chopper!!! ;D ;D
The question was what came first, not what travelled faster, splattered more or hit first. For the drop test, they both came out at the same time, one eventually looking like it met with a chopper. ::) 8)

I say the frying pan came first...;D
What did you do -- build the stove under it? :o

And what would the first chicken have thought when he crapped out it's first eggs?
...that he'd just made history...
"SH!T!"
Very close -- being a rooster, he may not have found it much to crow about. ;)

Now since that is settled...
Why do we drive on a parkway, but park in a driveway?
Well, this only seems to apply in some parts of America.
To my tiny bit of knowledge, New Hampshire has no parkways; it has thruways and/or interstates, highways (although they are sometimes comparitively low), drives (which are never driven anywhere), parking lots (this is almost understandable -- you may not draw lots but finding an empty one is sometimes a gamble)... and we have driveways but I think  there used to be another "a" in the word because, to get in or out of one, you have to drive a ways.

PS. In England it would be called the grass verge.
On the verge of doing what? ???

While we're on the subject of perplexing questions, think about this one. Remember the old nursery rime "Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water..."? This begs the question: How and Why is there a well on top of a hill? ???

Not all traditional nursery rhymes can be literally interpreted & their origins are shrouded in mystery. However, there are several prehistoric hill settlements near my home. These are usually built on the highest ground & all once had dew-ponds to supply drinking water. I assume this could be the origin of the "well" in the Jack & Jill nursery rhyme. This dew-pond has recently been renovated. http://www.findonvillage.com/0686_the_lychpole_dewpond.htm

There's been many chills, some bigger than others, and I don't know anyone in these parts who was around during the ice age. Our tallest mountain, Mt. Washington (@6280 ft.), is supposed to have had its upper two-thirds cut off by the bedrock-crushing ice (New Hampshire's occasional, rarely noticed earthquakes are from these huge, earth-covered chunks of rock -- our hills -- slipping off of another). Our ground water gets trapped in the crevasses and depressions of the bedrock, the source of our well water. Since most of New Hampshire is hills and many homes are upon them, a great many wells are also on them -- but not so often attended by pail. Also, although we do have a number of Jacks and Jills, and some of each have tumbled, I've never known any of them that had a crown (of head or tooth) broken while carrying a pail up or down a hill.

While on the subject I find the history behind nursery rhymes fascinating. Most of these innocent sounding children's rhymes are cutting political satire sometimes describing grisly events. http://www.rhymes.org.uk/index.htm

Jack & Jill has several interpretations, a popular one being the execution of the French King Louis XVI & his Queen Marie Antoinette (on the guillotine). As this rhyme originated in England I prefer this one.
In the mid-1600s, English king Charles I placed a tax on beer and spirits to raise money for his own pleasure. At that time drinks were sold by the jackpot which had the volume of one jack, and the jill (gill) . His subjects resented this new tax. They resented it even more when he reduced the size of the jack and jill to increase his revenue even further. Under his tough rule protests had to be disguised so the people made up the rhyme about jack and jill. The words about "Jack and Jill went up the hill" refers to the increase in price for a jack and jill of drink as the volume was decreased; "Jack came down" is about the measure returning to its original size; "broke his crown" refers to Charles I being almost toppled from the throne as the people revolted; and "Jill came tumbling after" means that the jill returned to the original size.

Hadn't known of that one before -- I'd read about Ring Around the Rosie referring to the plague, though.

Even that has regional variations & different interpretations. In England it's "Ring a Ring O'Roses". http://www.answers.com/topic/ring-a-ring-o-roses-1
Note the pail of water appears again in the second verse.

Of course, this question has a much deeper significance than chickens. The real answer is 42. :P ;)
