HP Online Live chat

Postby BAW0343 » Fri May 19, 2006 12:18 am

Well i am trying to get my pc back up to its former glory so i checked out HP "Live" online help chat. I had my doubts about it being a real person (it was real). It started out good, she gave me some random (yet cool) info and totally lacked to help me at all. She continued to try, but i was doubtful. Then it seemd to me she came through... but nope just some real basic computer stuff.  Wel for your reading pain enjoyment, here is our conversation: (ignore my spelling  ::) )

Stephen Marshall: Hi
Shysie: Welcome to HP Total Care for Presario Notebooks. My name is Shysie. How may I assist you today?
Stephen Marshall: I have the R3000 as i am shure you are aware
Stephen Marshall: I recently did i format and i believe i used the wrong boot disk (i have 2 compaq's) and i have experienced a major loss in processor speed
Shysie: Oh! I see. May I know the serial number of your Presario?
Stephen Marshall: let me find it
Shysie: Sure..
Stephen Marshall: ********
Shysie: The serial number is a 10 digit alpha numeric number found at the bottom of the notebook.
Stephen Marshall: Before the format i often ran at 1500 MHz now i am around 797
Stephen Marshall: ok lets lok again
Stephen Marshall: **********  missed a few numbers
Shysie: Thank you for the information.
Stephen Marshall: So now what?
Shysie: Stephen, could you please elaborate on the issue that you are experiencing. So that I can assist you in better,
Stephen Marshall: I did a format of my computer, after this i have experenced a major loss of computer processing speed. I used to run at 1500 MHz, I am currently at 797 MHz. The laptop is plugged in and i tryed some of the updates, didn't help the speed.
Shysie: Thank you for explaining the issue, Stephen.
Stephen Marshall: No problem, if i didnt how would anything get done.
Shysie: Let me assist you in regard with the issue.
Shysie: One moment please .......
Stephen Marshall: No problem.
Shysie: Your Presario is shipped with AMD processor with Power Now technology.
Shysie: The Key Benefits of AMD PowerNow! Technology are:

1. Optimizes battery life
2. Provides performance on demand when required by the application
3. Allows the processor to dissipate less heat under normal operating conditions, providing a cooler and quieter-running notebook

Its accully VERRY hot

Shysie: 4. Operates automatically in the background
Shysie: AMD PowerNow! technology adjusts the processor's performance and power consumption by dynamically adjusting the processor's operating frequency and voltage.
Stephen Marshall: yes yes, good stuff and all, but what about my problem. telling me the cool stuff about it isnt helping
Stephen Marshall: and how do i change this?
Shysie: So, to check the exact speed of the processor and the current speed, I suggest you use the below utility:
AMD CPU Info
===========
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content ... puinfo.exe
Shysie: NOTE: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the portion of the address on the remaining line(s) and paste it at the end of the address showing in your browser until the complete address is displayed in the Address box.
Stephen Marshall: its downloading
Shysie: Okay..
Stephen Marshall: done.. installing.
Stephen Marshall: it says max speed is 1600, which now that i think is where it was running.
Stephen Marshall: But it says nothing about my current speed, and dosnt explane the lack of performance
Shysie: The processor will run on the maximum speed depending upon the Applications running at the same time.
Stephen Marshall: ok, easy enough to understand.
Shysie: Alright. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Stephen Marshall: um, yea, what IS causeing the system to slack?
Stephen Marshall: if the processor is always changeing then why do my programs run slower AFTER i clean out the computer.
Shysie: Have you installed any other softwares other than the Operating system?
Stephen Marshall: microsoft office, and one or two anti-spyware/virus. But i had these on the computer before the format and nothing was affected.
Shysie: Let me explain you in regard with the cause of the issue.
Stephen Marshall: ok, be my guest
Shysie: The issue you are experiencing could be due to the low System Resources. In order to resolve the issue, you have to increase the System Resources. I will provide you the link in which steps have been crafted for your convenience to increase System Resources.
Stephen Marshall: Ok sounds good.
Shysie: Here is the link:

Shysie: NOTE: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the portion of the address on the remaining line(s) and paste it at the end of the address showing in your browser until the complete address is displayed in the Address box.
Stephen Marshall: Ok, all well and good, but BASIC, I am currently running 36 processes. I have run this many with good system performance. I will try this and hope for the best. But unfortunatly i feal the problem is a little bigger than this.
Stephen Marshall: Thanks for your time, but im off to find some more info.
Shysie: You are welcome. Performing the steps in the above link would resolve the issue./

fun..  ::) lol (i had fun hiding my system s/n  ;D )
