P.S. ...by the way...
...725 views of this topic by enthusiastic, gun-toting, fanatics is a bit worrying for the rest of us... ;)...!

You know, not everyone with a closet full of guns, hand grenades, land mines, claymores, grenade launchers and C4 is a fanatic... ::)

What flak ?

This thread has been informative, a little sarcastic, non-volatile (compared to many threads I've seen) and entertaining.

Firearm enthusiasts are more likely to treat such things with the respect needed for safety. No need to hide from them (us)..

Chances are that a young man will be making a more informed decision, with his hard-earned money, now.

I agree, that is basically the best/cheapest way to learn to shoot a rifle.

I'm really surprised that the .17rimfire isn't a much more popular round. It is relatively inexpensive, capable of world class accuracy and has almost no recoil.

Its only drawback is that that tiny, little bullet loses velocity and accuracy out past 100 yards. I suppose once you're concerned about long-range accuracy.. you'd have graduated to something more potent.

I've shot a few, but never owned one.. Gonna remedy that now  ;)

I find it amazing how little I know about "my" rifle in comparison to y'all.  All I know is it's loud and has lots of recoil. ;D

Didn't Charlton resign after getting some kind of mental illness like senility?
Mind you he could do a lot with that kind of disorder, President, High Court Judge (if he moves to the UK), or go into an old fogies home...

My one claim to fame was back about 1981. I was going home and passed an ambulance company that had a 105 Howitzer (circa WWII) sitting on it's front lawn. I stopped to inquire about their odd lawn art. The owner told me that their building was a former VFW building and he'd gladly pay me $100.00 to haul the thing away. I admit it did look a bit odd sitting there in front of an ambulance building. Heck, get paid to haul off something I wanted, such a deal!  8)

Now I owned a Dodge Power Wagon 4X4 with a 318 CID 4BBL, that was the most powerful truck I've ever owned. But it strained it's nads over several hills getting that darn thing the 25 miles to my home.

There it sat for all of a week. Nicely angled to shell my neighbor.... ;D.....(the barrel had been filled with what appeared to be concrete  ::) ). It couldn't be fired, but my neighbor didn't know that..... ;D. To say my ex-wife was not amused was an understatement. Until one day a man happened to be driving by and went totally ballistic. He was acting like Mark would if he found a Spitfire sitting in someone's front lawn.... ;D.

He jumped out of his car and offered me $1000.00 USD ( he collected items like this) for it. My ex-wife suddenly decided the Howitzer was a good thing  ::) and immediately agreed to sell it..... >:(. I said hell no, I'd only just got it and wasn't interested in selling. Then the offer went to $1500.00 USD and my ex-wife's looked at me like, "Sell the damned thing!" I still refused and the offer went to a last ditch, $2000.00 USD. By this time the greed in her eyes was saying, "Either sell it or I'll make your life a living hell!" She was already making my life a living hell, but I knew it could get allot worst. So I agreed to sell it for $2000.00 USD.  :'(

The guy sat there for about 2 hours waiting on a friend with a tow truck to show up to remove it and he played with the damned thing.... ;D.
