Wanna find out where some of this people are getting you email address? Just go and google your email address. Just go to google.com and put your email address in the search bar. Though its not inclusive, I found two places. Here and a guest book I can not get to anymore

I feel so lucky.  I have never gotten spam at my address. I have other things to worry about, like actually replying to my legitamate E-Mails.

When I was on BT Dialup, I used to get loads of spam emails, but now I've moved to AOL broadband, I've had no spam ( Unfortunately the connection isn't very good   ) Guess I'm lucky...

I regularly get SPAM that guarantee's the enlargement of my private part...oh, and they also throw in Viagra at times... :-X ::)

Well it goes to prove that even when a company states it will not share your info, that doesn't mean it can't be stolen

A simple bot much like what appeared here spamming the forum is all it takes to get every registered users email address, then you get the spam

I have been lucky I don't get much spam at any of my email address (4 total all for various purposes). Only time I started to get a lot is when our forums at my website were hacked then my hotmail address went insane for a few days.

Important tip if you look at a spam email NEVER NEVER!! reply to it, or click a "opt out" link (this includes writting them a "stop sending email), when you do this it verifies to the sender that you have a active account.

I keep getting spammed with advertisements for spam blocker software.  ;D

There's a zillion ways for spammers to get your email. Usually it's done with bots that scan forums and other sites. Sometimes it comes from guestbooks you have signed whether on a friend's site or a site set up specifically for collecting email addresses. They can also pick up emails from accidents like a contact who has your email address and then gets a virus. The virus spoofs your email as sender and sends it'self to a hundred other addresses. A bot scanning one of those ISPs will pick your email address up.

Sometimes they even get them from legitimate vendors you have given your email to for business purposes. They don't always tell the truth in their privacy policies. There is money to be made selling email addresses especially verified addresses. Sure it's a violation but it's very hard to  prove exactly who it was that sold your email addy so many companies do it anyway.

Good advice about not clicking on those opt out links. Some are legit but most aren't and you will just end up with lots more spam.

Also don't believe anyone trying to share a large amount of cash with you just for helping them out. It's a scam. There are no mega millionairs living in refugee camps in Nigeria or Rwanda or wherever who need your help to get their money released. Also no country will accept your word only that you are heir to a contractor who died with $20,000,000 and no next of kin.

I got a particularly dangerous email the other day supposedly from Pay Pal. It said that pament had been approved for a large screen HDTV for $2,500 and gave a shipping address that wasn't my own. (actually the address doesn't exist). It said that if I didn't initiate this transaction all I had to do was click on a link and cancel the sale. The link led me to a website that looked like a Pay Pal site but asked for my bank, account number and credit card number. Yes, it was a scam.

Note: If you recieve something like the above don't click on the link or visit the link. I checked it out through an anonymous proxy server. The IP# for the Pay Pal website was registered to an account in Nigeria. Enough said.
