Well if that were the case than anything over 4 cylinders should be illegal. ::) We all know what they're used for.

I'm alright then! ;) ;D

Is it true that Willie Nelson's ride can drive up to 200+ miles o the gallon with fuel that is mostly used food oil [like the kind that you find at BK and McD]? Just wondering. ;D

It actually is true, I don't know about 200+ mph, but you can make your own boidiesel from food oil.  Check out this link...http://www.homebiodieselkits.com/hobikit.html ;)

Nearly, a Vauxhall Vivaro minibus, good for my son's mobility difficulties as he can climb into his own seat, less awkward lifting for us.

13,5 km on 1 liter for a 1.9 diesel (probably a quite recent model) when you don't push it too hard

I heard on the radio today that you can make biodiesel from wine. Why anyone would want to do that though is totally beyond me. ;D

One reason that Americans complain about increasing gas prices is that unlike Europe, 50-70% of our price isn't tax, its all profit for the oil companies. Even when the increase is because of tax (soon to happen), especially in New Jersey, people complain because the money almost always goes to a higher pension for some worker, instead of improving the community. Another reason is that back in August, when hurricanes Katrina and Rita struck, the oil companies raised prices and claimed that there was a shortage of gas, and that they needed to rebuild their refineries, drilling rigs, and distribution plants. Yet when the oil companies released their financial report for that quarter, they all had record profits, in some cases, upwards of 10 billion US.

Most of UK petrol costs are in tax. Ok - the oil companies do well, but old gordon gets most of it. Our gallons range between $6-$7. Its disgraceful.

A while ago Shell had a newspaper advert campaign that showed the cost distributiuon. It didn't last 3 weeks... as it was clear that over 50% of the price was taxes (and the government didnt want that info to be public).

Yep, summer gas price hike is here. Temps hovering around the 60s to 70s. Guess it's time to break out the Kawasaki. It might even pay to put a set of hard bags on it this summer. I can stuff almost $100 of groceries in a good set of bags.

People can't stop using gas completely. Our whole society is built around fossil fuels and the work they do for us. The key however is to use as little as possible. If they see declining sales the oil companies will reassess their pricing structure but as long as we drive huge 4x4 monsters down to Village Pantry for a loaf of bread the price isn't going to go anywhere but up.

I never have understood why people need a Hummer when the only off road driving they give it is when they pull it under the shade tree to wash and wax the sucker. ???

Oh and by the way, I used less than 50 gallons of heating oil over the winter by switching to a corn burning stove. At this rate I won't need to buy heating oil for another five years and when the corn grows this summer the greehouse gasses my stove produced this winter will be cleaned up. It's as close to a "win-win" as you can get in home heating.   8)

Well, not everyone uses a 4x4 like that. I once saw a 4x4 that was sooooooo taken off road that it was covered completely in mud. Heck, even the mud covered the ALL the windows. Bbasically, it looked like a giant chocolate bar with wheels. ;D

To put the 4X4 thing simply, if it doesn't have a tow bar, and you don't live on top of a mountain or in a swamp, then you don't need a 4x4.
