Er, I think it's St Georges day...

Er, I think it's St Georges day...

Postby C » Sun Apr 23, 2006 10:18 am

Erm, at risk of being arrested by Tony Blair's secret police, or being branded a closet member of the BNP, I thought it'd be nice to let the world know that today happens to be the day of England's patron Saint, St George... :)

The sad fact is that more people in England probably know when St Patrick's day is than St George's day, and the sadder fact is that they know that for all the wrong reasons...

Being a mixture of Paddy and Jock I'm not all that worried as we have the best booze-ups with Patrick and Andrew 8)
However I've got a nice selection of cold beer in the fridge to celebrate as I'm a looooong way from home ;D ;D ;D
What can we get drunk about tomorrow? Tuesday I'm sorted as it will be my nameday 8)

Two world wars and two world cups... and before anyone asks, Deutschland does have a rugby team... and I needn't mention Munich, Sept 1 2001?

#1a. Entered late in WW1 because the rest of the world seemed to have no idea how to end it. :(
#1b. Entered WW2 because the rest of the world evidently hadn't learned much from the previous match. :P
#1c. No World Cup: figured the rest of the world should finally win something on their own. ::)
#2. Figured we should join the rest of the world and look just as foolish. :-[

Of course, St. Patrick was actually a Briton taken as captive for slave labor in Ireland. Gained his freedom at @16 but returned to Ireland to free the 'demonic twits*' who'd enslaved him from an eternity in hell.
'_*': just kidding - I've Gaelic and Brittonic ancestry as well. ;)
