Suffice to say Doug I completely disagree, but I've already said everything I need to twice.  I just want to make it clear that the target here is NOT fat people-it's unhealthy people.  The object is NOT to turn everyone skinny-it's to turn them healthy.  There is a distinct difference.

As for smoking that is a different domain. To be open minded could it be counted as occasioning actual bodily harm by breathing smoke on a non-smoker? Is repeated smoking in areas with non-smokers an offence because of the harm it causes them? Havig done some law, I can see where the government is comming from in it being anti.

This is not really relevant but I would like to point out that there is an awful lot of hysteria & false claims made about the dangers of passive smoking. I sincerly believe that non-smokers are in more danger of getting lung cancer from walking down any high street & inhaling noxious traffic fumes.

Fat? Your buisness no-one elses. Your heart, your life. The government has no right in saying what you do.

Agreed with you there Ben. However it's hard to say that when you see someone you love and have known all your life battling a large girth. My father as well as my uncle have run the chance of heart attack/diabetes for many years now, and its painful to watch, especially when I get up at midnight to go to the bathroom and find my dad in the cookie jar. Something about that isn't right, and I've been trying my damndest not to wind up like him.

I forgot to mention that having hopefully quit smoking for good I now run the risk of putting on weight. It's enough to drive you to drink. ::)

PS. Drinking beer is one of the most common reasons for men being overweight in the UK. Alcohol is also responsible for a large number of accidents & deaths. Imagine the outcry when the thought police try to stop that. :o

They're trying to combat that in a fighting fire with fire type method. By liberalising the drinking laws. ;D

Indeed. Very strange logic if you ask me. ;D

There's no hope. ::)

Who is to say what is overweight anyway? The ideal figure seems to be controlled by the fashion industry & I think most people would agree that normal human beings were never intended to look like fashion models. ::)

"Overweight" used in this sense refers to the strict medical guidlines, not abstract terms.

Actually, if you look at most European countries, the lack of drinking restrictions actually helps. There are far less European kids that go out with the intention of getting wasted every weekend than American ones, simply because they have been raised with alcohol and it doesn't have the same appeal to them.

there is a difference between 2 kinds of obese people. the ones that choose to make themselves fat (you can laugh at these guys, cos theyre fat) and the other kind who cant choose whether to be thin becuase of ilness or other things (dont laugh at these guys or someone might punch you)

Please search back for my post where I refuted any claim that obese people have actually "chosen" to be fat.

You may say that they made poor choices along the road that amounted to them being overweight, but for the vast, vast majority, you cannot say they actually chose to be fat.  That means that, between being fit and healthy (not necissarily skinny, just healthy), they consciously chose to be obese.  This is, of course, a ridiculous claim.

And sorry buddy, I don't think it's ok to make fun of ANYONE in that position, regardless of how they got there.  Come to think of it, I don't think it's ever ok to make fun of anyone (maliciously) ::)

Look at it this way;
a fat person looks in the mirror and sees a fat person!
an anorexic stick insect looks in the mirror and sees a fat person!
My advice is be happy with who you are... the rest is details. If it is affecting your health do something about it, otherwise just enjoy life. I'm a tad over-weight at the moment but it isn't causing me any trouble and I'm perfectly happy.
Once we've finished moving into the new flat I will take up running again as I have been missing it (due to a knee injury). But that is personal choice. I like running, a lot of people don't!
I'll also be getting a bike (probably tomorrow) and putting a kiddie seat on the back so I can take my daughter out for rides in the countryside. Good exercise, clean air and time together to have fun. It makes us both happy and that is the best thing ;D

Exactly.  That's why I keep stressing it's not about being skinny, it's about being healthy.
