The theme this month greatly limits what one can do with the shot.

I think it all comes down to that.  I mean come on, how much can one honestly do with rotation?  It's very limited.  That doesn't mean we can't still get excellent and creative shots, but what it does mean is a lot of people are going to be taking the same kind of creative and excellent shots.

And, it hurts, but Rotty's right.  Your shot is excellent-but do you notice that nothing sets it apart?  Not your fault, it's just the subject matter.

I've got a REALLY exciting idea! Lets get rid of the screenshot contest because of all the Moaning Minnies!
Lets look at this...
a) nobody can win a fabulous piece of payware for free given by a generous company out of the goodness of their hearts!
b) Dave doesn't have to spend hours sorting out the contest each month!
c) the judges don't have to give up hours of their time each month checking all the shots and trying to choose contenders
d) if you don't like it go elsewhere ingrates!
e) I'm not going to write what I really think 'cos I'll have to ban myself >:( The main reason I come here is to get away from this sort of rubbish at work. If you don't like what I've got to say refer to point D, you have the honour of being allowed to come here, not some kind of God-given right!

Speaking of creativity, you are all right about the repetiveness of the styles. In addition to that trend, I noticed that almost everyone has yet to fully exploit the leverage that the common rules allow. For example:

Have you noticed that almost every shot was taken using the latest sim? This has been going on for ages.

5. Screenshots from FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, CFS series only please!!

This common rule has been in place for as long as I can remember. It's because of this rule that I have taken it upon myself to make this entry:

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1145229844

Even though my entry looks rather crude with the graphics and the view is generic due to FS98's limitatios, notice that my shot stands out from the rest since I happen to be the only one with a FS98 shot while everyone else uses FS9.

Talk about creativity. 8)

Maybe we should get rid of the Moaning Minnies? ;D

The contest, to 95% of us, is all about fun. I enjoy coming up with the best possible screenshot I can, and I enjoy seeing what other people have come up with. It's a great feeling when you get into the finals, as you know your efforts have amounted to something, and your shot has been appreciated! :)

...It's just the select few who decide to take it a little too seriously ::)

My views are that theres only a certain amount of angles you can pull off whilst taking-off, BUT i still think there is plenty of creativity in the scrrenshot contest, even with the limited amount of angles!

Besides, it's fun, and theres always next month if you don't win ;) Thats how I look at it, and thats why I keep trying! :)

Well it's almost always the negative people you hear.....

The rest just take it for granted I suppose...

So let me give the Mod an judges team a big applause and a thank you for making the contest possible as it is!

For me the contests are from now on purely to compete with the best that simv has to offer.... That's why I really miss Lemoncat in the contest and I hope he gets well soon! Winning is fun I guess but competing even more.

Once again a big thanks to the Mod team!

I give up! Jeez. This place HAS become quite hostile!! Ozzy, I am NOT taking a dig at the screenshot contest, having a winge, moan or anything! I am just trying to voice my opinion that this month the creativity is down. Yes, the topic IS harder! All the more reason to TRY HARDER! Personally I am disappointed with how similar a lot are, but as i said as a WHOLE they are STILL GOOD! I am not trying to take away from the wrok that HAS been put in, I'm just saying in some parts MORE could be put in!! As for realism, it is a damn SIMULATOR!! If you want realism take a camera out to the local airfield!! People have the power of tower and spot plane views, as well as modules like F1View. USE THEM to your advantage!! Stick out from the crowd!! DO something unique!!! I will iterate AGAIN I am NOT taking away from people's work, just voicing an opinion that more could be done!! If someone can't voice an opinion without being bullied and called and moaner and winer then this site is really going down.

Very important to be able to put your money where your mouth is, so let's have another look at your (very nice) screenshot:

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/ ... 1144926942

What exactly is it that really sets this one apart from the crowd? Your view zoom setting is a little closer than most? It's good (although the forced perspective is a teeny bit unrealistic for my taste), and yes, as usual some of the others are mediocre, but... it's not my favorite so far (no, I won't say whose is my fave). One problem I have is that I can't really tell if the wheels are still on the runway (one of the requirements). They probably are, but is not clear if that is so.
Don't get me wrong; it's a wonderful screenie, but I agree with those who say the limitations this month are very tight (not that that's wrong).
I think you'd better bring more if you're going to slag everybody else's talent like that.
BTW, you will notice that I have nothing this month, and probably won't bother...

Thankyou Rotty for pulling up my entry. I'm not saying that mine is the best but at least I have tried!! What sets mine apart is, as you pointed out, the zoom. It is closer and cuts out most of the craft. My zoom focuses on the main fuselage and gives a feeling of the angle and climb. The fish eye I used gives it a feeling of jumping out of the screen. And the wheels are on the ground, FS isn't good at the ground perspective. Mine is also different as it is taken from nearly front on, unlike most which are taken from a front or rear quarter. Mine may not be the best, I think there are a few better, but at least I have tried to be different, creative, and capture the power of a heavy lifting off the gorund.

Rotty, I am not SLAGGING off. How many times do I have to repeat my self! I AM NOT TAKING AWAY FROM THE WORK PEOPLE HAVE PUT IN!! I AM JUST SAYING MORE CAN BE DONE!!!!

Woah snap!

TWO, that work harder kind of thing never gets people moving. Last I knew your friends got kicked out of power in '45.

Calm down!

"If you're not prepared to lose, you're not prepared to play!"

Treat the screenie comp with respect and it will treat you with respect. Dont badmouth each other like lil kids over entries, cos thats what it looks like.

I'm sorry Andrew. I'm just getting annoyed that I voiced an opinion and now I'm getting bashed around for it. It is highly infuriating when I'm only voicing an opinion and get blasted for it, insinuated that I don't appreciate what the mods do and called and moaner by a mod. All i wanted to do was voice an opinion not pick a fight, or moan or winge

No offence but I always find it a little funny that the people complaining the most are the ones who havent even been here that long ::)

As for creativity...I've seen plenty.  It is a little hard for some but its there.  Your not limited much...theres a whole frickin world to explore.  Not so much about the aircraft but the scenery as well ;)  If anything you have to be quite creative in your shot this month to make it stand out.  Thats better then a free for all IMHO.  Why should the aircraft on the runway restrict the creativity...I just dont see where some of you are coming from...its all about the angles, scenery, and setting.  May have to play a little more this month but only makes your screenshot abilities better in the long run because it forces you to experiment....cant anyone be happy that theres accauly a challenge ???

Personaly my shot was taken in FS2002, tower view, dark side of the aircraft, and the use of scenery and setting more then the aircraft its self.  Almost everyone is going to use their most recent sim for the contest...its easier when you know what your flying in.  FS98 was an interesting one though (for some reason if I try a screen in 98 all i get is a black box for a shot :P )

Contest isnt about winning its about the fun.  Some say this months is hard to get much from...I think the restricted rules are even better...makes you have to think about it more and limits everyone in some way.  Makes it easier for those of us in older sims to accualy have a decent chance in the contest ;)

Seems its time everyone cools off, why is it that things are getting so hyped up lately.  Tensions over this contest have never been higher :-/  Yes there are a lot of newer members competing...most of them apparently cant read rules, yes this theme accualy makes you think a little more.....its just something everyone needs to adjust to.  I kind of liked the idea of making new members wait a couple months before being allowed to enter as well as a certain number of posts....say 50...  Would limit all the new comers that are only here for the comp and could care less about anything else...Some of them post a shot thats out of bounds and dissapear as soon as someone says something.  Why should someone be allowed to come in here, their only post in the entire site be for the contest, win the prize, and never be heard from again :P  Seems since the contest there has been a huge number of new arrivals...how many of them have accualy hung around after the comp ::)

Anyways...its getting late.  So relax everyone...its just a contest ;)

It's a whole lot of hoo hah over nothing if you ask me.

I don't really understand.  If no one's being creative, why bring it up?  Get the edge.

The whole screenshot contest thing bothers me.  People haggle and argue to much over things which were meant to just provide some simple fun.  I remember the whole debate over whether an A-10 was a fighter.  I suppose it's because everyone's at each other's necks for the prize.

Easy now...
I'm not "bashing" any more than you are... just opinions, that's all.
I guess my feeling was that your opinion was possibly better left unsaid... now that you feel you're under attack, I think you can see why... :P
But I will add that my hat's off to you for posting something other than "nice shot!". That gets a little tiresome, too. Just my humble opinion...;D
I hope we're all still friends... ;D

First off, Winged.One..
Nobody is saying that you are complaining.
I think we are all just blowing off steam about the topic, that is all....

Very well said Triple!!
Put it this way, the contest is going to have a few changes in the future.
I think the people complaining are the people who  just want to slap their "easy shot" up and hope to win.
We did not create the contest for that reason.
Yes, I agree that the rule this month was a little "restrictive...............................

SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a simple contest!
It kills me to see a dozen "locks" in the contest forum.

From now on it is going to be a simple "delete" of the thread! If you can't take the time to read the rules, why should we take the time to "modify" your post!
Another rule that is going to change is you need to be registered here at least 3 months prior!
This should help to avoid anybody from like I said, just registering to compete. The thread will simply be deleted!!! End of story!!

I CAN'T STAND SEEING LOCKED THREADS IN THE SCREENSHOT COMPETITION. It adds to the numerous posts that need to be looked at when judging the competition!!!

I am getting frustrated with people just entering to get the prize. They are not regulates here. This site is for our users, not guests to come and post a shot that is linked, over sized, etc...... because they have not even attempted to read the rules that are in place to avoid many of the problems...

I think we might take a month off so everybody can re-group, cool their jets and realize that the contest is something that we go through great lengths to construct!

All you people who complain about the contest remember, this is a privately run site that creates it's own rules, if you do not like the rules, then do not play the game!!
