For the little guy

Postby Craig. » Wed Apr 19, 2006 3:15 pm

Well not exactly. Basically, at work several things have been introduced that are against company policy, and several members of staff have been shouted at infront of customers all this at the hands of the new manager. Again this is not company policy and in some cases simply an attempt at humiliating the member of staff. I have had conversations with several members who feel the same way as I do but are unwilling to do anything right now because they are afraid it will cost them their job. However being the trouble maker I am and generally up for a good argument, I have come to the conclusion enough is enough and I am taking this above the head of the store manager and complaining to the head office. This will include several requests for several of the issues that are against company policy to be removed. And for something to be done about the constant public reprimands. Otherwise as I have been told, legal action can and will be taken, as I have been a personal victim of this myself.
The question is, am I doing the right thing, or is there another route people might know I could take.
IF this were isolated incidents it wouldn't be an issue but its getting out of hand.
Appreciate any advice or experiences shared.

So.... just have a chat with the manager himself is not an option?

I have this situation too over at my job. All employees are very dissatisfied by the changes in the management, but almost nobody dares to say what they think.

I'm not happy (anymore) with the job either, but then again, I'm planning to leave. So if my manager warns me about my behaviour, I just tell her that it won't happen again. And if she says something I don't agree with, I simply tell her that I don't agree and why I don't agree and we have a healthy discussion and agree that we can't agree and let the whole thing pass...

Oh I've already talked with the manager, and told her basically how little I gave a crap about her and her opinions of me personally. I did my best to make a good first impression and she disliked me along with several others from the start. But thats not part of the problem. To begin with, She has introduced a new clock card system, company policy is all wages and work timings are dealt with by the cash office staff. And as they have told us this clock card system should never have been introduced, now we are being told if its not done correctly we will loose pay for any mistakes made with it. This is the primary thing we all want removed, we have gone to the manager, and her attitude is if you dont like it tough.
Next she has taken to changing everyones hours around, and jobs around for the sake of giving her something to do one afternoon. This has further ticked people off and reduced the store morale.
And when you also add in as I mentioned the attempts to humiliate the staff infront of customers, its only a matter of time before someone nails her to the wall by her ears and proceeds to take that anger out on her.
Before she was brought in the place was actually quite a good place to work. Now its just a nightmare for everyone.

That's what happens when you put women in charge... :-*

Sounds like it's that "time-of-the-month-thing" going on, ey... :-X

;D

But seriously...
The cash office staff told you that the clock card system shouldn't have been introduced? Why don't they do anything about it? Did you ask them? And did you tell the bitc... uhm... manager what the cash office staff said?

I've only held one job, but I dare say all the managers held true to sexual stereotypes.  All the men were, shall I say reasonable?  Women, however, seemed to be emotionally troubled (employees were the support group), power hungry or just plain out to exert and abuse power.  I would like to say it was a coincidence, but over the course of perhaps +10 managers, I can't honestly say so.

As far as your current course of action, I say go for it.  Go as far up the chain of command provided you're still listened to.
