Yes, I totaly agree with you there!But I didn't mean "where" they got the idea, but why they actually planned to do it.

After I heard what happened at Columbine I also got the idea of running through my school, shooting everybody, but (after about 16 nanoseconds) I realized how horrible this would be and rejected the whole idea. I believe every normal person thinks like this. It's neccesarry to understand the things that happen in this world.

Those kids actually went on with the idea...  :( I just can't imagine why.  :-[

Of course.  And usually the more you try not to think about it, the more you actually do so. There's a big thick line between toying around with an idea and doing something crazy.  I don't remember doing so, but I don't doubt me and my buddies joked about shooting up our school.  I think all of us would've found it very difficult to even point a loaded weapon at someone.  I just don't sympathize with these kids.

This might seem a silly thing to say coming from someone who was born during WWII, but young people today are exposed to far more graphic violence than my friends & I ever were. You can't tell me that violent video games, feature films & TV programs don't have an effect on impressionable minds. This is something that we were simply never exposed to or could ever imagine. Add to that the instant communication & news cover nowadays to plant the ideas in their heads. The most terrible things happening on the other side of the world are immediately reported & shown on the news in all their graphic detail.

I agree with Pigeon. Parents who do that are always in denial and don't want to accept the fact that they [as parents] have failed to raise their kids properly.

Back in high school, I was always quiet and always did as I was told. Because of that I got picked on a lot by half-witted monkies because I always made them look bad and because I was always the teacher's pet.

During that time, there was one instant where a bully actually nearly pushed me [mentally] to the breaking point and I was a heartbeat away from throwing a chair at him in class. Thank god I refrained from doing that and thank god that my parents always taught me enough to ignore such people, because such people will always fail in the end while I reep the benefits of knowledge aquired in school.

In short, don't worry about the obviouse bullies. They're the least of our concerns. It's the quiet ones that fly under the radar.

I was just thinking about this again when I was doing the dishes. I was wondering how these things happen. I mean... it would be very unlikely that 2 kids get this same idea at the same moment and they're both serious about it. This means that the kid who got the idea actually managed to convince the other kid(s) to join him in his plans. That just gives me the chills.

*sigh* one person getting a crazy idea and spreading it to, ahem, let's just say "many", is very applicable to the real world Pigeon.  People are stupid, gullible, impressionable and easily swayed into closed minds.  Unfortunately, the result is often extreme cases such as these.

Good thing they caught it in time, sounds like these fellas were dead serious.

Personally I blame the parents. I've noticed something as a teacher that surprised me! All the good students and nice kids at school have their parents taking an interest in them (even the little things like turning up to Parents Night) and encouraging them, the parents who sit in front of the TV and never give a damn have the problem kiddies! The fact that this so far has been 100% of the cases I've seen in the last 7 years does tend to prove it.
So maybe the parents should shoulder a little responsibility (rather than blaming and suing which seem to be the two most popular tactics) and actually caring a bit about their off-spring!

Disdain and payouts only perpetuate this sorta thing. Seriously, at school its those who stay silent and let this kinda thing happen- let the tools bully the quiet kids are the real people to blame.
